Battery draining

izup69

Destroys cars
Well the car started off fine a little while ago the battery took a dump. I replaced it with a new battery and have not ran the car verry much since then. The battery held a charge for a good month before it drained. Now The battery is dead every morning. If I jump the car and run it for about 30 min it charges fine. Come out the next day and the battery is dead. Was thinking maby the alt was bad and it was somehow pulling juice from the battery. Even tho the car is off and parked. The alt is less then a year old. Battery is less then 2 months old. At first I thought it might be my amp so I pulled the main fuse. Made no diffrence. I do not have a tester to check If there are any more drain points. I can unplug everything I think of and it still drains the battery. Any ideas ? Would it still be the alt maby ?

You probably got it fixed by now, but if not, bring it to auto zone where they can check if there is a battery drain somewhere. I had a problem with mine where the trunk light was staying on even while it was closed.

Could be a bad battery. Advanced auto can check the alternator as I had mine yesterday checked. If the cars running and u disconnect the battery negative that's a good way to check the alternator as well

Alternator isn't going to drain the battery when the car isn't running. The alt basically either charges or it does not charge when the car is running. It is not going to drain the battery either way, it just won't charge it.

You might have a faulty battery. Need to have it tested to make sure the CCA's are up to snuff, and to make sure you don't have a bad cell.

Wrong.

An alternator can back drain a battery when it goes bad. Simple test is disconnect alternator overnight an reconnect. If battery holds charge its a bad alternator. We have run into this a few times. Alt checks out fine and charges great yet battery still goes dead.

I've never run into that, and have never known anyone to run into it, and I have dealt with a few bad alternators. None have ever killed the battery when the car wasn't running.

Yea I agree more with this statement. My regulator in my alternator is bad right now and it only drains battery when car is running
