Battery and fusebox relocation

So one thing led to another and I got carried away. I don't understand the how to for relocating the battery. Do I just use the stock harness in this picture and extend the power wire to the fusebox, and extend the power wire to the starter? Then just ground the little one and the other ground that is usually by the starter, in the trunk in 2 different spots?

Well you have:
2 power wires that go to the battery
Then 2 grounds.

Run the power wire from the starter directly to the battery in the trunk

The next power wire goes from the fusebox to the battery...

Or

you can run the cable from the starter to either a distribution block in the engine bay or a distribution post and then run a cable from the distribution post to the battery

Next you can run a positive cable from the fuse box to the distribution block or distribution post

The grounds

Run a new cable from the trans housing directly to the battery.

The next ground you can find a decent spot in the trunk (maybe strut tower) to run the second ground

If you do it this way you'll just have 2 cables (one +, one ground) running the length of the car

Or you can just skip the whole distribution block or post thing and run the starter cable directly to the battery and then run the fuse box cable directly to the battery as well.

And while your at it run a new power wire from the alternator to either the fuse box or from the alternator to the battery of from the fuse box to a distribution block...

And add a circuit breaker for the battery in the trunk somewhere

Make sense?

Absolutely. Thank you so much. Im thinking I should run a 0 from the battery to a distribution block by the trans close to the firewall. Maybe next to the booster? And from there go to altenator and starter. Than from fusebox in the center counsel to the battery. And then grounds are pretty self explanatory.

If im understanding this than that should work?

For my batt relocate I have battery in trunk grounded to spare tire well area with 2gauge then another 2 gauge that runs up from to engine block. Power wire is a 0 gauge that runs to distro block where the alternator with 2 gauge meets it and starter. I then have 0 gauge piece from distro block to fusebox

Factory ground to battery is grounded where the battery tray used to go.

Thanks. Im going to do a massive wire tuck so I was thinking where can I put it and have it not be seen. I thought you should never have a smaller ground then power...? so you took the ground that was on the trans and just put it right in the spare tire area and the other ground is where the battery used to be?

Hmm guess I need to dig up some 0 gauge I was planning on just using some 4 gauge welding cable for everything.

I have a **** load of 4awg. I wanted to try and use that from battery to fusebox , and from distribution to alt and starter

I'm pretty sure I have a bit of 0 gauge leftover from KnuKoncepts but won't be enough to run it to the trunk and it's really thick so wanted to go with something that will be easier to route.

I haven't bought any in awhile and when I did I order it online most of the time. Last time i tried to buy some around here it was something like $3 a ft or something ridiculous around here.

1/0 is way to go...
You should probably upgrade your Alt to a higher output too...
Is what I'd do if or when moving battery to trunk.
Maybe not needed but Just my $.02

Upgraded alt is not needed. As long as whatever alternator he has on there now is functioning properly he"ll be fine. High output alt is a waste of money unless he has a high end crazy system.

Over here its $3 a ft for 4awg. What is 1/0? I want to relocate the alternator to where the a/c compressor is. Do you know which one would bolt on? Or if I need a custom bracket

Since I have 3 ground location points and there tied together I don't need tonworry about my ground cable size there all bigger than 4 gauge anyway.

I wouldn't bother with the alternator unless your car is dying on you.

I got my 0 gauge off eBay for 28bucks shipped for 25ft worth of high strand oxy free cable. I also made it a point to solder every lug and crimp it.

And negative the ground on the trans is still there but my battery is grounded there to the same point which ties back to the battery tray location. I also have the battery additionally ground in the spare tire well.

I used 6 gauge for the relocation to the trunk on my GTP. It works pretty good in the warmer months but when it gets cold you'll regret not going bigger. I also have a 1000 cca top post battery in the trunk so if you have a smaller battery than that your definitely gonna want to go bigger with the wire gauge.

Also don't ever let the battery go dead. The when you go to start the car the key gets stuck in the ignition. The battery is dead so you can't pop the trunk and unless you have a spare you can't open it from the outside. I really regret relocating it to be perfectly honest.

for us simple folk, can I just run a wire from the negative terminal and a wire from the positive terminal and then move the battery to the trunk?
