Bad water pump?

with any luck most will pull right off, razor blade works good for whats stuck on there, then spray brake cleaner on a rag and wipe it clean,

same for the cover.

How OCD do I have to go on this cleaning.

did you cut off the pan gasket? or that a aluminum pan that was rtv'ed on there? i forget what year this is lol

edit,yes it looks clean enough.

Do I RTV both sides of the gasket or just the cover side and 2 in up the block on the block side?

i put rtv on the block 2 inches up from the pan. then the gasket goes on, then more rtv on the gasket and pan sealing the bottom corners well, then put the cover back on.

rest of the gasket goes on dry.

Late night. Got most of it back together. Have to double check the orientation of the smooth tensioner pulley I took off the coil bracket. Then throw belts on add antifreeze and oil and fire it up. Seems like I should use some cheap Dino oil and run it for 10 miles and then change again. Does that seem right to you?

Seems to work!!!! Have some misfires on cylinders 1&4 under boost more on 4. That was there before I believe. Not sure if it's a bad coil pack or that the 1. & 4 wires crossed each other twice. But I will worry about that another day.

Leak fixed!!

I put plugs and wires on about 145k. Acdelco OEM so they should be still good for 70 k

Should've done the timing chain and dampener while you had it apart..

Time to change your plugs and wires. You should do some other maintenance while your working at, pcv valve plugs/wires, cabin air filter, regular air filter, ect.

Did you do an oil change right away after doing the gasket.

Swapped 2 coil packs and the misfires follow the coil so ordered one of those.
