Bad oil pump??

Alright I have a tick coming from the bottom of my car, sounds like its coming from inside the oil pan. The sound started out in late winter and would usually go away after warm up and oil pressure builds... Now it's progressively getting louder and more frequent. It is a tapping/ticking sound and is consistent w/ engine speed... The only thing I can think of is oil pump... Any input, similar stories, advice would be appreciated.. Here is a link (I recorded 4 videos but they are almost all the same)
YouTube - L67: Bad oil pump??? 4

i dont hear what you are trying to get at...but 90% sure it wouldnt be an oil pump. the oil pump is driven straight off the crank and their failure rate is very, very low.

listen for the tick... the audio quality isn't the greatest, try to listen over the exhaust

cant tell with a crappy video but have you changed the oil? what weight oil you running? any shavings in there?

yes sir, i'm pretty anal about keeping up on it. i use full synthetic 10w-30, just changed it within the last week and nothing abnormal came out as far as i could see... I use a new filter everytime too

Try Lucas Oil Stabilizer...if the noise goes away then it is valvetrain related. If not could be a cracked flexplate, or it could be internal.

its really hard to tell with that crappy video, the exhaust seems kinda loud, you sure you dont have an exhaust leak at the manifolds? usually makes a ticking noise.

run whatever oil keeps your oil pressure where it should be. anyone that follows the manual word for word doesnt know how cars work in different altitudes and climates.

Never heard of altitude effecting oil pressure before :) Although I suppose guys running a 3800 in a small airplane might want to keep an eye on it. :th_nanana:

I take it back.
"7. Does altitude have any effect on the performance of motor oil? Because I live in a high altitude area, should I use a particular type of oil?

Lubrication requirements are not affected by altitude. A more important consideration for your area is ambient temperature. As always it's a good idea to consult your owner's manual or your local service station for specific recommendations on your car."

Even in an airplane it wouldn't matter. Thats off of valvoline's website.

And as far as following the manual. 5w30 is recommended for series III engines. This oil is fine for almost all operating conditions unless you expect prolonged use above 110+F or in extreme cold. I typically follow the manufactures recommendations unless I have done some modification that I feel voids the recommendation.

The only time I change oil viscosities due to ambient temps on a properly working (not worn out with tons of blowby) stock engine is on my one air cooled ATV. I'll run 10w30 in the winter and 20w40 in the summer. On my water cooled 660 raptor I run 10w30 year round.

That's kinda funny, because being based in Jersey...the Yamaha book states you should consider a thinner oil and potentially a different jet in the carb (if a carb'd year) for the Raptor.

05 Raptor 660
Got both FSM's on DVD

You have a grizzly 660 too eh? nice.

I live in NJ, but my atv's are in northern PA. we ride in temperatures ranging from -30F to as hot as 85F. Typically we don't see above 75F. 10w30 is recommended for the temps here. 20w40 is fine in the summer on the air cooled 350. This is per the books

my 05 raptor 350 is stock while my 04 660 is far from it. I have carbs jetted, the airbox modified and the largest rear sprocket that fits. Also other various mods such as shifter, handlebars, reverse lever and such.

the 660 will start without choke when its 10F out. Its a hair on the rich side but seems to burn clean.

Being your into ATV's id like to talk to you more about them, but we need to do it in PM since this is far off topic.
