Bad MAF sensor?

Hey Guys, I have a 1997 grand prix gt. Recently bought it. It was getting great gas mileage, we did a 6 hour trip and it did great.

it started doing a random stuck at high idle thing, tracked down and fixed that, it was the TPS. In the process of trying to find the problem I cleaned the IAC, and the MAF sensor (with maf cleaner).

Now it is getting terrible gas mileage, can literally see the needle drop on my way to work, and 20 minute highway drive.

Car idles and runs great besides that.

Is there a chance I may have dirtied up the maf, or even broke it while ill cleaned it?

Any ideas?

Thanks guys

Aslong as the wires weren't touched or disturbed you probably didn't break it. Like Dan said try unplugging it and see if it changes also insure that it's plugged in

Glad you guys got that figured out :) . Anyways, just an update, Before I unplug and drive it, i wanted to try something else really quick, I thought maybe when i sprayed out the iac port maybe some the the throttle body cleaner/grime got on the maf, so I just took it out and re cleaned it, so ill see how that goes.

Side note, the random high idle when put in park happened again, thought i had it fixed by changing the tps (there was a code for that) but I guess not. Put it in park and the idle jumped to 2500rpms for a few seconds then went back to normal.

I was wondering that, but someone told me an iac stuck open would not cause that high of idle, but I do think its a possibility. It was incredibly dirty and carboned up when i went to clean it.

Anyway to test it?

Is your car actually running low on fuel? If it doesn't seem like the fuel is being used up as much it might be the sensor in your fuel tank saying how much fuel is in there. Otherwise I would change the MAF sensor completely and make sure the TB is real clean.

Ok, I was going to replace the iac, but the only thing that confused me is that it seems to be related to the gas pedal. Like it happened on me, got stuck at 2500 rpms, i tapped the gas to see if it would release but everytime i hit the petal it would just increase the idle. However when I go look at the engine, the throttle is completely closed.

Can it still be the iac?
