Since it started getting cold out, my 00 GP SE 3100 has had trouble turning over. Yesterday I started it and it back fired, now there is a ticking sound. I know its not a lifter tick or rod knock (Those sound im familiar with), this sounds like a watch ticking sped up. When i rev the motor it goes away, could this be the dreded spider injector tick?

The cover piece says 3100 Sfi, thought it meant spider fuel injected?

I did have a look at my manifold, there seems to be a hair gap. I tightened down the bolts and now i just have to wait until it is 30 degrees or less out to see if it back fires again. Since it only does it when its all cold out.

I recently had a ticking noise that came when the engine was cold. I knew it wasn't lifters or a rod knock by the sound. It ended up being the Vapor Canister Purge Valve, and was normal. I have the 3.8, but it's probably in the same area. Here's a picture of mine:

Mine was more dominate sounding from the driver side of the motor but that could be something to look into as well. I did notice it didnt make that tick sound when i started it tonight though.
