Aux Install Help

Hey guys, new here and have a question that hopefully someone can help with. Basically me and a buddy tried to install an Aux input for my 2004 Grand Prix. The one I got was the PAC AAI-GM12 model. Anyways long story short we hooked everything up and it didn't work. We figured that the wire we connect the power to was wrong so we tried a couple until finding what we think was the right one (the orange wire). Still didn't work. We just couldn't get the AUX to come up, using the BAND button or the CD/AUX one.

Has anyone used this with success? If so could you give me a little step by step on what you did? I have the Monsoon 6-disc changer.

im no expert, but this may be the problem.

Requirements: 2003-2006 SUV’s and trucks with a RDS or Navigation radio. The SUV or
truck must have a factory XM receiver, factory DVD Rear Seat Entertainment (RSE) or
factory/aftermarket CD changer (factory 6 disc changer built in the radio does not qualify).
 
What did you use for the switched 12v? You need to go to the glove box and look for the sunroof fuse. That one is switched. You wont find a switched 12v behind the radio.
 
Hmm, well I had found this list and the Orange made the most sense.

Radio 12v orange + radio harness
Radio Ground black/white - radio harness
Radio Ignition (Class 2 Serial Data)
Radio Illumination gray (dimmer) + radio harness
Factory Amp Turn-on same as power antenna wire
Power Antenna purple + radio harness
LF Speaker +/- tan - gray +,- radio harness or amplifier
Notes: The amplifier is under the rear deck.
RF Speaker +/- lt. green - dk. green +,- radio harness or amplifier
LR Speaker +/- brown - yellow +,- radio harness or amplifier
RR Speaker +/- dk. blue - lt. blue +,- radio harness or amplifier

So I would need to somehow connect the red power wire that comes with it to the sunroof? That makes sense, I wouldn't know where to start to make that happen though since the wire is pretty short.
 
I will have to try that. Is there a way to run the wire behind where the head unit is to the glove box?

Another question as well. Even with/without power going to it the Aux option won't show up on my stereo. Shouldn't that show up regardless of having a switched or constant wire?
 
It wont if that orange wire you tapped into is 5v. The aux unit is 12v. They usually have a tolerance from 9v to 17v. 5v is not enough to turn it on, and the radio needs to "see" it in order to switch to aux.
 


And yes, to run the wire...just drop it down, behind the radio, to the passenger side and run it over to the fuse box.
 
Alright man, will definitely try that out and see what happens. I've seen a couple other people that mentioned using the sunroof to get it to work so hopefully that does the trick. Thanks for the help.

Just for knowledge purposes, do you know what that blue connector does at the bottom of the head unit in the picture? We unplugged that just to see what would happen and everything on the radio still worked perfectly fine.

Didn't even think of that. Though I wouldn't think that's it because the AUX device has a connector that you put in there and from what I hear the steering wheel controls should still work for the radio/cd just not the new aux input.
 


More then likely, apparently it was easier for them to use the same harnesses throughout rather than using different harnesses. And that way, a customer could add on XM/Sirius a lot easier if their car did not come with it.
