Auto 1st gear problems

I have a 2001 Grand prix when i reach 2000 rpms in first gear,the rpm jumps and car will not pick up for a while does anyone have any idea what it could be my guess is spark plugs but would like some opinions or suggestions. Also when i step on the gas it doesnt pick up.thank you
