Attack of the knock retard

im getting some kr between 5200-6000 rpm its somewhat random on how much i've seen as little as 2 and as much as 6

the first shift seems much better as far as kr goes

im kinda lost here as im only on 16* of timing with 93 octane, headers and a open cone. im in the middle of tuning and if this is correct, and not false knock of some sort im only gunna be able to run 13*

any ideas where im going wrong, i also should throw in i was running really reach on the first couple runs in that rpm range. and even with leaning it out to get it in the 11's the kr is not getting worse.

continue tuning it. you're not done yet.

look into the transmission file as well. it will pull timing in KR form as torque management.

well i started tuning on this overkill pcm as a base and i know torque management is disabled on everything but shifts, and if i remember correctly i believe its set at 5%.

should i reduce my timing while im tuning my afr's, cuz i dont want to blow nothing up seeing that kr on every WOT run

I have no idea, so I drew a picture of the knock retard attacking. I hope you like it.

what AFR are you running? I had the same problem and it was because I was running too rich. I ended up zeroing out the whole PE_RPM_vs_time_A/F table and setting 11.5 AFR in PE.

I'm looking at a overkill bin and it lowers your AFR by 1.26 between 12 and 14 seconds of PE mode. If you have set AFR in the 11's, you'll have it in the 10's by the time you reach 5600 rpm in 2nd gear.

I also edited my bin with the tiny tuner program and zeroed out the "AFR Spark" table under base timing. Although it looks all 0's in the overkill tune, just make sure you have it like that. This one modifies timing advance based on AFR. It will normally add timing, the richer your AFR is. But in this case it don't help at all.

Do not zero out the RPM VS TIME table unless you have a wideband. 1st gear isnt much load, 3rd gear is the gear you want to look at when tuning. Its the highest load. Posting a scan would be a good idea so we can see whats going on. Are lft's pulling fuel causing knock? are they ading fuel causing kr? To many variables

Whats your mods? what plugs? what pulley?

i got the scans saved still im just not sure on how to post them and if im just posting the .hpl file or what i have to do so you guys can look at it

now im not done tuning yet im only midway so my afr are still a little off but the are the closest to mid 11's when the knock kicks in, i gave it a break for awhile since i now have a p1571 code

Mods are 3.4, ported gen 3, ssac headers, al104's, res and cat are straight piped for now

Edit: oh and i do have an aem wideband for those that asked

so im half ass reviving my thread i've been having random kr with no rhyme or reason. well after a little reading lately i read that the trans dipstick could be hitting the cross over, well sure enough it is. my question is their isnt any room for me to bend it before it hits the brake fluid reservoir, so what are my options. I've been leaning towards the easy way out, do you think if i folded up some header wrap and wedge it between the two it would be enough of a cusion to fix the issue?

take a pry bar and a hammer and dent/bend the dipstick just enough so that it doesnt touch. you may have to mark the tube and remove from car and bend it away from the cross over and then back again so it doesnt hit the brake fluid reservoir

Pfft.

Just grab it and bend it a little.

Your goal is to not break the pinch welds.

If you do....Your boned.
