Ashtray Removal?

Has anyone with a pull-out ashtray in the console ever fully removed it? I don't smoke, so I was wondering if there was something more constructive I could use the space for. Will it just leave an open compartment? Will it look bad, since the astray is lighted and has the cigarette lighter in it?

Has anyone thought of any ideas to convert the ashtray into something else?

i think i've seen nitrous or meth injection controlls that's made to go in that spot. i took mine out and put a cb in there.

I've thought about putting my power inverter into the same spot. It's a little wider than the ashtray and looks like will require some fabrication to support it.

Thanks for posting that! Ive been thinking i could get mine in there like that too just havent had time to try it yet since i'm at school. Now i know for sure its possible! How much cutting did you have to do and what did you have to cut?
 
Yeah! thanks! I was wondering where to put my Strobe and siren control at! The will make it easy to control the yelp and strobe direction when I am running to the firehouse for an emergency!
 
I had do do some moderate cutting but nothing too bad. I used a stake knife lol, it's the best tool for the job. The plastic back there is kind of brittle so u can probably just break it off. I honestly spent the most time fabing a bracket up.
