Are Peformance chips woth it?

Not to be rude but i already spelt it out for you. Route 1 is what you are looking for as i suggested in my previous post. Go in order of the mods i listed [you could go without the scan gauge if you don't drop the pulley but every one on here im sure will HIGHLY suggest you can scan before and after a pulley drop]. Also you can push the plog to later because its a bit more difficult. Trust me i want down the same path, this is the simplest way to gain the most HP for the cheapest. I mean dam i even gave you the links to where you can find those products the cheapest [new] that i know of.

K&N filter fine, but a filter alone is a hot air intake giving you little to no horse power only MPG. You want a cold air intake or a fender wall intake. I like the cold air inductions box but the majority of people here have the wizaired. All of my mods on my list are very easy to install with little experience, beside the pulley, and if you get to that point then we will talk about it.

sorry, i was just looking for other opinions. your suggestions were great, but even $1000 is alot for me and i can spend less with close performance i would like to know how, to get $1000 would take me a good 6 months. i could probably get half that by the end of this year. i guess i could spend a grand, but i would like upgrades sooner. so which of those parts u listed should i get first? i just dont have alot of money i am 16 and in high school, i cant work 40 hour weeks :/ just doing odd jobs to save up money. so i am on a pretty tight budget and just looking to what others have to say.

Yea being on a budget is always the problem. IMO the first thing to do is open up the intake. If gives better performance, better gas millage and hearing the s/c wine is also a plus. With light to no modifications a fender wall intake or a cold air intake is the way to go. If you are moderately handy and as you said on a budget making your own FWI would be a good route. Here is a thread describing how to make one and what you need. I believe the materials plus the air filter will cost under $80. Now you have options for what air filter you want, if you want to spend more you can get the AMSOIL air filter = $63.05. Youd meed model eaau4090 [please double check on this as i am not 100% positive]. Your second option is a K&N re-0870 [again please check first]. This is cheaper i believe around $45. If you don't want the trouble then get one of the two CAI's i listed earlier, either the Cold Air Inductions or Wizaired. Then a PCM, I believe you will have to send your core [the one you already have] so your car will not be working for the time it takes to send it out get it programed and get it back. An Intense PCM would be the best option. $100. It does all of the stuff described here under features. You may also want a PCM tray $50, If not you can just wire tie your pcm down.

I would say this should be your first move . I am interested to see if anyone else agrees/disagrees with this.

sgdude your in my position (im a junior in highschool and 16) like most people on here know i flipped the gtp but, the best mods your gonna want to do now is 1. open the intake (hell ebay ones work) 2.plugs and t-stat 3.open the exhaust around u bend 4.HID'd are amazing!!! 5. Modular Pulley System from zzp and 6. get the areoforce scangauge to make sure you dont blow anything up (work from there)

You should also have a full DP (not just the u-bend) if you're going to go dropping pulleys.

I will only add one thing. Don't waste your money with the Ebay intake. It's a hot air intake with a cheap filter.

so, what is the most important thing to get?
if i could only get 1 thing, what should it be? (more would come later)

so of all the upgrades, a CAI would be the best? and u reccomend wizaired (over k&h)? which one, there are a few wizzaired CAIs? and should i also buy a k&h air filter with it?

Series 2 Wizaired is the Standard. I would buy either the AEM dri flow or Amsoil 4x9 filter. These both are no oil filters and certainly are my choice.

I agree with the no oil filters. The Amsoil looks very promising the end of the cone is open for more flow (unlike the K&N).

Although the wizaired shows the best drop in intake temperatures of comparable CAI's [minus cold air inductions model] i personally dislike the flimsy look/design, and i have heard the ducts break on occasion. Probably why they sell replacements for $50. To my knowledge no one has compared the Cold air inductions box to the Wizaired so we don't know which is better for sure. [I would love to see data on this if someone has it]. I personally would get the cold air inductions. The technology is the same [insulation wise] it looks and most defiantly is more sturdy and it comes with the pcm tray and cone for $260. So only $15 more then Wizaired + filter.

if your on a budget, MAKE your own intake. its not hard. the main factors are to get the filter AWAY from the engine compartment and heat. run some tubing over to the fenderwall and make sure the filter is in the fenderwall. then put a heat barrier on the tubing to block the filter from the engine heat.

http://www.grandprixforums.net/f81/new-intake-my-gtp-installed-today-5503.html

this is a good thread of how to. his first intake is on page one, his better revised intake is on page two. total cost is about 80 bucks to build your own.

if your on a budget i would HIGHLY recemend this.

also some rutene matience to make sure your car runs healthy. plugs, oil, maybe even supercharger oil. new oil in the tranny and a new filter in the tranny.

then i would go with a down pipe and powerlog. about 260-280 bucks with a cat. if you dont have emisions then you dont need a cat.

then after the intake (good intake at that-no hot air intake) downpipe, powerlog and a good tune-up you can think about droping pulley sizes.

but before you get a pulley your gonna need an aftermarket PCM or get a tuner and tune your car. considering you dont know much about tunning with go with an aftermarket PCM. overkills are problew by far the best ones you can get :: Overkill Motorsports ::

after all that and the tune (not to be confused with tune-up) you can drop pulley sizes. problew around a 3.4 or 3.5 BUT you wanna scan when you get the pullies to make sure you dont have to much KR. and aero force scan gauge is a GREAT investment.

just take your time and do it right. you dont have to buy everything at once but the pulley SHOULD be the last thing you put on.

and ive ran with a couple 350z's there about even with my car. the auto's cant get away from me and the manuals if they get the jump can pull out from me but dont really go anywhere. just have a real slow pull.

hope this helps

well, my GTP got recked, (not my fault) soooo, no mods for a while. if they cant fix it they will give me kbb value ($6220) and i found a 02 GTP with 64k miles for $7K, so one thing at a time
itll probably be 2 weeks or so with no car :/
this is the last thing i needed.

i just got my new laptop i wanna get a tuner for my GTP so i can delete the 124 mph limiter and find other codes that i can mod or delelte to make my car perform better and get better 1/4 time. any ideas what codes can be deleted and what can add more poweer some1 please help me out and explain this to me in a private messege or something and also were can i pick a good programmer / tuner up at for undered or around 200 bucks or maybe more if its a good 1 =] thanks. -Joe-

If you are looking to be on a serious budget do the intake your self. You can paint the tubing insulate the tubing a lot of things to make the home made intake look good as well as function well. There are a few write ups in the write up section I am gonig to be makeing one soon myself.
