nah, there's a balance there. if that were true then running a 1:1 ratio would be the best. for top speed runs you'd want a lower gear ratio, but for quarter mile runs you can put higher ratios in it, it helps you get up to speed quicker but will top your car out earlier

In round numbers, each gear step (from 2.93:1 to 3.29:1 for example) will reduce your quarter mile E.T. by about a tenth of a second and your trap speed by about 1.0 MPH.
