Anyone with a 2011+ explorer or edge?

We are looking to replace my wife's Saturn aura. She likes the explorers, edges, and escapes. The escapes seem to be too small for us. I think the edge feels big enough, from the ones we have looked at. And I can only assume the explorer is bigger yet.

We are going to look at a 2013 explorer xlt tonight. Is there anything I should watch out for, or any complaints? I'm not finding much from Google searches...it appears as if they are mostly problem free.

My Aunt has a 2012, which I rode in. It's nice but feels a bit bulkier than it needs to be. Quiet inside and I could be seated properly behind the front row. (6' tall) ..err no mechanical issues that I know of.

Police package parts are available for the Edge, aren't they? There's motivation.

I think both the edge and explorer have police package parts.

I'd like to find one with the 3.5 ecoboost, but they seem spendy and rare. I'm also not sure that my wife would appreciate a 12 second suv as much as I would.

My brother has a 2010 Explorer. It is ok, nothing fancy. Nothing I'm aware of as being a major issue, other than the transmission (as usual). It is a pig on gas.

She just pulled up in a brand new Edge Titanium rental (business upgrade). Ecoboost and all that. We got it for a week headed to Duluth, which is challenging in spots. I'll post back.

It's Silver next to the blocked out neighbors car.

The newer explorers are nice, haven't seen many problems at all with them. Some get small oil leaks between the motor/trans so I'd look there. The rear brakes wear really fast on those vehicles too.

I would look into the PTU failures in the Edges before you make your decision. Not sure which years were worse than others. It's a spendy fix if it does go bad.

Thanks all for responding. We liked them both, so it's just a matter of finding the right one now.

One thing that really surprised me was that the explorer was actually harder for me to get in and out of. I have to stick my feet between the brake pedal and the firewall or else my knees hit the steering column and I'm unable to get in or out.
