Probably a long shot, but figured I'd give it a go before I resorted to military surplus.

Anyone happen to know where I can get a hold of a good, durable, all weather IR (Infrared) illuminator that can withstand being permanently mounted to a vehicle?

no i dont know where to get one but have looked into making one and using a video camera as a cheap night vision, there are certain leds that are brighter then most you will find on the internet. I cant remember the name but if you want i can look them up. thats if you want to make your own.

That would be great if you would. I'm not opposed to putting something together on my own, in fact that might actually work out much much better.
 
Get some 200mW infrared LED's. Put them where you need them. You could even get some old fog/head light housing and mod your own like put 4 or so LED's in it.
 
Once you're done Chris, you'll need to post some pics of what you made. I'm curious to how it will turn out, good luck bud...
 


If your looking for an IR lamp i bought mine of alibaba.com , I could only find one wired for a DC outlet so I jus bought an adapter from wal-mart. cost me like 100 total and i have seen deer from up to 55 yards with it

Which one do you have? Only one I've found so far that looks like it could be mounted on a vehicle is this one

Not to mention I can't really figure out how to work that site, how much it is, or where to actually buy it. lol :D


I also found this one on my own that I'm really liking, but it's got to be black.

I would go with this one if i could do it all over again... I went with one that was supposed to be used with a security system. very limited mounting possibilities and a narrow range of vision. this one is a great bang for your buck. plus its not gray which is very noticable even from a good distance under the right lighting conditions... almost steathy with the black :th_winking:
