Can anyone give me some info on what things are like in the Philippines? Ive been to South Korea and Japan but no there. Id like to know what the culture is like, is it a nice place (maybe some info on general safety and attitudes towards Americans) how difficult is the language to learn and so on?

I have dealt with people from the Philippines. I was deployed with a unit from Hawaii and alot of them were from there originally. Very nice people. Atleast the ones I knew. Not sure about going there how the natives are, but I don't see where there would be much difference. If made mad they do hve quite a temper though.lol!!!

No but a lot of the people that I know who have been there say it is pretty nice and they don't ever mention anything bad about the people there.

i know its two different countries but i couldnt resist thinking of these quotes....
"you have girlfriend vietnam?" "me love you longgggggg timeeeee"
"black man too bo koo" ahhahahahahahahah great friggin movie

I was there a couple of years ago.

It's third world so take it for what it is. They aren't anti-american and they aren't pro-american. They just want the money. I was in Manilla and they had a quasi coup firebombing store fronts etc going on wasn't a friendly atmosphere so we halfass fixed the plane and got the hell out of there.

Ironically enough, it may be Manilla Im heading to. LOL. I got caught in a demonstration in South Korea so Im not stranger that environment. It didnt take me terribly long to learn how to read and write Korean, I studied some Japanese and Chinese but didnt become as fluent in those as I did in Korean. I doubt I would be, if I end up going, there long enough to worry about needing any language skills, but it would be cool to try and learn at least some basic conversational skills.
