Seriously though, it's you're ambient air temp sensor for climate control/rear view mirror. Tells the climate control of the display in the mirror what the outside temp is.

if im not mistaken that goes down low near the bottom splash guard i think

Yep, that is your ambient air temp sensor. It should mount infront of your radiator on the splash guard somewhere. All it does it tell your mirror what the outside temp is

Pretty much, plus soemthing else.

It either tells the Digital HVAC the temp outside or the mirror. Plus if the sensor goes bad and reads the complete wrong temp, it can stop the AC from working
