Any tips for repainting fender?

Car-part.com.. there are so many stupid GP's out there..and billions are silver. You are going to spend more in materials then your own time, that you could simply buy 5 correct color fenders and beer.

To illustrate my point. I have bought some lightly scuffed cars in the past and ... let the pictures show themselves.

Here's the CL posters picture

I recommended that he just buys a correct fender but nooo...it's not a show car. Even though he's going to end up spending just as much on material and not to mention time!

Lol. For peace of mind I'll check around tomorrow at the boneyard for a fender. Last time I removed a fender I had a time replacing it. Some kind of plastic clip was holding up the entire process

Lol yup I know what you mean bill. I spent $55 on this fix.

If I would have purchased a new bumper and had it painted it would have cost me over $500 for the bumper and to have it painted. Now I need to find a front bumper.

Well I need to contact him lol
Standing right here...

Honestly, a fender swap could really mess with you if you're not familiar with the vehicle's construction. For example, on a 97-03 GP original fender the hood hinge is spot-welded to the fender. The forward fender to bumper mount is a slide, the rear is a bolt. The gigantic use-once-and-destroy rocker cladding just about has to come off to unbolt the fender at the bottom and that means maybe ripping the molding plus destroying an unpredictable number of pricey clips, plus probable rocker damage.

So I don't blame you a bit for not wanting to tackle changing a fender, bluemagic. But for them that are willing, its possible to score big time if you find the right part. What many folks don't consider are the environmental implications of using a "right color" salvaged body panel. If you use one, you not only prevent scrapping a good part but you also completely avoid throwing any aerosols in the trash, or putting any vapors into the atmosphere, or even making dust while sanding. Again, try car-part.com if you want to try this. In my state theres probably a dozen silver LF GP fenders, seriously. We could guide you through a fender swapout.

I still say try the spray paint and get a shop estimate then decide.
