any Tech Tip for rocker install?

Im keeping my car simple because its still a DD so im doing a 1.9 rocker setup, not rollers just the modified ones. i know im going to get haggled about "cam ftmfw!:th_thumbsup-wink:" but not going too. Sorry nick lol.

so any tips for what i need and what i need to watch for.
also a parts list of stuff i may need while im installing the rockers.

Car is a 97 GTP 86*** miles. 3.5 pulley, SD headers, 180 stat and 3800 Performance tune.

Are you gonna do springs too? If not I think they recommend keeping shifts under 6200 or youll start to have valve float.

Parts:
Rockers (Obviously)
OR Pushrods arent necesary but can't hurt.
New lifters can't hurt either.
Rockerbolts Why aren't rocker bolts re-usable? arent they just like any other bolt?
Valvecover gaskets and the little bushing thing for the bolts if you mess em up.
Springs if you want....If you do springs you need a springs compressor and one of the things that you hook up to an air compressor and it pressurizes the cylinder that way the valves cant fall out.

I'm sure im missing some stuff, this is just what I know from reading since i wanna do rockers instead of a cam too.
 
You doing springs too? Its all pretty straight forward just make sure you buy the reusable bolts and if you do springs remember to use compressed air to keep the valves up.

get reusable bolts
105 springs
new valve cover gaskets and gromets
some assembly lube
 
is changing the rockers and springs something someone with little expierence could do? the only hard parts seem like getting to the back and changing the springs.
 


okay, i think im going to go with 1.84 roller rockers so i dont have to change springs. Push rods are pretty straight forward, correct? not to difficult
 
Pushrods just pull out. If you have all the rockers on one bank off you can probably take out every pushrods in like 2.2 seconds Ok not quite but you get what I'm saying
 


keep the rocker bolt holes free from debris and oil before you put the new bolts in and torque down. I rotated the motor manually re-checking torque on the bolts.

q-tips work well

I didn't use any cam lube, just lubed the rockers with oil before putting them in.

this is what ive never understood.. torque to yield bolts need replaced after removal.. because of bolt stretch..correct?

torque is the amount of bolt stretch applied to a fastener.. so always replace used bolts since they've been stretched?

or is it on particular bolts (ie TTY), once it's been torqued it wont return to its normal length?

i torque sh*t all day at work, but i'm in assembly, assembling new parts not reused. never gave it a thought :confused: thanks.
 
well when my parts come in, theyre are on back order as of now, ill take pics and hopefully have some insight on how to do this. maybe a write up, who knows.
hopefully its as easy as some of you say.

Yeah they stretch. You torque them to a certain and then some many degrees extra.
