anti rattle spring

this come withe the vette calipers i was wondering do i need this piece when installing the brakes. what's the purpose of the anti rattle spring anyway?

here is pic. according to the caliper overhaul instructions sheet it's call anti rattle spring. it sit right in the middle of the caliper. the LS1 camaro/firebird have one too.

Hmm...looks like it just might keep the pad from rattling around. I would put it back like i found it.
 
it does keep the caliper from rattle and helps it stay in place. when i painted my buddy's trans am calipers they were in there and i questioned it too but after looking at it for a min it serves a purpose
 


I used to work on Lexus and man if you do not get a fitting kit which is what that consists of you will hear some sloppy pad popping from forward and reverse changes. I used to get that all the time when a customer wanted to save 50 bucks on their brake repair. Please place it back in and if it hasnt been changed in the last couple of times, get new ones, think heat breaks down the molecular density and tensil strength of the metal.

I tried to run my car w/o them and man did they make allll kinds of noise.
I put them in the way they are suposed to go on and it toned it down, didnt stop it, but it did get a bit quiter.
