I have a 2006 Pontiac Grand Prix with 117,000 miles on it. This winter when it is really cold, (below zero) the Service ABS/ Service Traction Control Light would come on. We have been in the 50's the past week and it doesn't do it but when I am driving and go to apply my brake it grinds sometimes like the ABS kicked on, doesn't do it all the time. In december I had the Passenger side front wheel bearing replaced. Any suggestions what this could be?

My abs/traction control lights came on this morning for the first time ever

I had just pulled into the parking lot at work so I haven't had time to look at it yet

First thing to do is check the fluid level...

So do you think it would be in the drivers side bearing hub since the other was just replaced? It doesn't seem loose when you jack it up.

Like the experts have said in other posts, an ABS scan will show the fault if there is one.

My fluid was a little low so I topped it off...
 
Well it's not about the wheeb hub bearing being loose or bad at all. Sometimes the sensors in some of these go bad real easy. Timken seems to be the brand to buy. Just because you have a sensor bad does not mean that the wheel bearing is bad. The sensor is inside the wheel bearing so you can't just change the sensor.
 


And it could be the front or back. Either of the 4. You can find out if you scan it with an abs scan tool.


Usually they charge you about 60-100 to run the scan. That is mainly because the scan tools that they use are over 1000 dollars.
 
Well I'll have to take it in. The ABS light hasn't come on for awhile but hopefully they can still read it. Is it most likely a speed sensor or ABS or both?
 
It possible. Not sure if it sets it in memory if the light has gone off like it does with the ses light but i would not worry about if it is not on. It may never come on again.


Typically it's the front hubs that do it for some reason.
 


The anti-locks kicking on at low speeds especially when you turn has me concerned the most. I will still have it checked out.
