so while i was driving home 2day! i was next to a 97-03 gt 2 door! and i noticed it had an antenna coming out the top of the passenger side quarter panel! keep in mind, my 98 gtp does not have an exterior antenna! can anyone elighten me on this?

nothing major; but i guess curiousity has me :th_scratchhead: on this one!

my 2000 does not have an antenna, my 2001 has a small antenna on the top rear window on the rear window.

I believe that they all have an antenna that is on the inside of the rear window and some of them have what i assume is some kind of booster antena that attaches on the outside of the window directly above the one on the inside

My 97 GTP has it in the rear window and my 97 GT has it on the quarter. I think it has to do with your options. GTP is fully laoded, leather, sunroof, etc and my GT is just the basic.

Early models the window antenna was optional.

later on window antenna's were standard but rumor has it that the window manufacturers would be lacking in delivery of windows with antenna's so to keep the line moving fender mounted antenna's were utilized. Since the fenders still had the option of adding antennas.

Early 1997 models did have an external antenna on the rear fender or 1/4 panel, and while I have not heard ^^^^ that reason, it is plausable.

The only external antenna on the Grand Prix after 1997 was on the 2001+ models that had the Onstar option, and that antenna is mounted on the back drivers side glass.

Mid 1997 all radio antenna's were installed on the rear glass.

Not true. I've seen 98's, 99's and 00's with antennas on the quarter panel.

My rear window is my antenna in my 00. Word to the wise do not scratch it or scrape it or your radio will go fuzz if you turn on rear defrost. I founs out on accident. I had a parking sticker for school in the back window i was tryin to pull it out my dad suggested using a razor blade so i did an it worked well but in one spot i scraped a little of the stripe an now if the radio an rear defrost are on at the same time the radio goes fuzz. Just oput of curiosity is there any way to fix it without buying a whole new window? Like some kind of patch or something?

they do make a patch kit for your rear defrost its like a copper paint then you cover it with this black pain it should work for your antenna look around and see if you can find it i think ive seen it at the local auto parts stores

My '97 is an early production, and it has an external antenna. I hate it, BTW! I replaced the original RC antenna with a shorty and it looks a bit better.
