SO now that I know that ive got to do the plastic elbows to finish valve cover gasket job .I have to do a t stat also so no biggy had to drain fluid anyways . SO now my question is on the aintyfreeze ive herd the green stuff isn't as hard on the gaskets as the red stuff is ?? Ive got to change it anyways so wich should I put back in?? The store has both -but I know with a switch to the green ide have to flush it out first . What do you guys use ???

how to flush the coolant.


remove the t stat, put the t stat housing back on, take the upper hose off the radiator, then push it down to the ground to a bucket or let it fly.


get your garden hose out, put it in the rad turn it on, then fire up the car, let it run till clear water pumps out the top hose.


then turn the hose off, run the car till no more water comes out the upper hose. then turn it off.


put your t stat back in, with new gasket, the upper hose back on.


now take 1 gallon of full strength green antifreeze, not the 50/50 crap. ( parts store cheap green is fine to use) dump the whole gallon in the radiator, fire up the car, fill the rad with hose water till its full. top as needed till its ready to be bled of air. it will burp and take coolant as the water in the block warms up the t stat opens up for a few seconds till cold coolant hits it and it shuts again.


now to bleed the air out, let it idle rad cap off till the fans turn on, (when the fans are on the temp is over 195 deg, the t stat is wide open) then open the bleeder screw on top the t stat housing a few turns till a steady stream of coolant comes out the hole, shut the screw, top off the rad. cap it.
 
Flush it out really good and then go green. Dex cool is crap. Pull your heater core hoses off and flush it from both ends also.

Id also recommend doing your lower intake gaskets too
 
Green will build and hold electrical charge in your radiator,which over time will pop holes in your radiator. Use red when ever you can.

Dex-cool is junk. It's not a 5 year coolant. They had a whole law suit over it and everything. Mostly everyone on this forum uses green. What rock have you been under?

The first part of his statement is correct. The second part about using Dexcool is the only fault. Hence why I said I used yellow.

If you properly flush and change green every 2 years like your supposed to you shouldn't end up with a large enough electrical charge to cause any real damage tho. Or can it get pretty bad in just a couple years?
