Another Lowering on Coils Thread

if there is something 'close' you can easily modify the bottom mount. the top mounts are going to need to be custom either way you go about it.

Heres what I posted on s/w asking for some advice and hoping that someone with one of these cars would go out a measure for me but they didn't. Aside from this post, I was also looking heavily into the koni strut inserts like what sandman has on his car. They have some that are shorter than stock by a fair amount. You would just still be restricted to a sleeve over style but it would get you pretty low.

I'm looking for some coilovers to go on my pontiac grand prix, but they have to
come from a different car because no one makes them for me. I need a starting
point to try and find some and I'm probably going to have to mix fronts and
rears from 2 different cars. The bottom mounts are the most important, I need
strut style mounts for the front and back with 3in from center to center between
the mounting holes in the front and 3.5 inches center to center for the rears.
The space between the mounting tabs needs to be 1.5 inches.

So far I
think some options could be 90-94 eclipse, 95-99 neon, and 00-03 maxima
coilovers for the front and 93-01 impreza, 94-99 celica, 92-95 mx-3, or 07-11
camry for the rears. I just don't really have any way of knowing for sure and I
cant seem to find lower mount measurements anywhere. If anyone knows if those
would work or has an idea of any other cars, any help would be greatly
appreciated!

You guys are making it to hard. Cut the bottom of the strut housing and lower the body as much as possible. Then cut the rod on top as much as you can that will still give you lowering capability but maintain some strut travel etc.

Another option is the Koni retrofits. I'm tucking a little bit of tire and its not to bad with my setup. FL roads much better than up north but I'll still bottom out a few times a day. Stiff springs help as well. The front bottom out so much easier than the rears as well. Look at my thread for my setup. Its not pretty but its working well.

I also did a full writeup just search koni coilovers

I had talked to koni at one time, they will shorten strut inserts and make you a custom length for you.

You will need the engine/trans mount spacers to help the axles, the other thing you can do is get a different extended balljoint that will help keep the LCA in better line. A guy with a bonneville was playing with this idea.

I found someone to machine what I need for me but since, from the bottom, the ball joint angle is up and inward, elongating the ball joint stud pushes the ball joint into the rotor and the knuckle inward.

I've been working on other stuff and I doubt I'll come back to this soon.

Drop knuckles would be the absolute best way to go.. too bad that'll never happen.

FWIW, raising my engine/trans 1.5" did help the axles play nice dropped 4" or so.

the mounts were cleaned up after, i had to round the corners and remove some material for them to sit properly in the strut tower, had to get them on there to see where the bolt holes would line up

The home made camber plate is pretty sweet..

It looks like what you did could be done to any coilovers with a steel knuckle mount.

the key is finding the correct length, and these are adjustable from the bottom for height so they are always in full travel of the strut

so you have full strut travel... But your maxed out for loweness?? What about running a shorter spring? could that not get the car lower, but loose some of your strut travel?
