Another KR Question

Stock 01 GTP sedan. 105k on motor, fresh trans from triple edge, engine cover removed, spark plugs are ac delco 41-601 gapped at stock specs 0.60" I believe.

I just got a scangauge II a few months ago. I am getting some KR and want to know if it is something to be worried about and if so what can be done.

I drive from 4400 to 6000 ft elevation with lots of hills. I use 91 octane with up to 10% ethanol content. I tried 2 bottles of octane booster with no change.

Here is what I typically see on a long hill climb sometimes higher numbers like 3 kr but I didnt get pics of it then.
1.8 KR @ 3.0 psi, 12 deg ignition timing,
0.4 KR @ 2.4 psi, 15 deg timing
1.2 KR @1.5 psi, 17 deg timing 2800 rpm 3rd gear
0.5 KR @3.0 psi, 12 deg timing, 197 deg coolant
Above readings at 2800 rpm,80 mph climbing a hill part throttle, 194 coolant temp 3rd gear
1.2 KR @1.1 psi, 15 deg timing, shifted to 4th/overdrive 2300 rpm 80 mph, 197 coolant

At full throttle I might occasionally see 4.0 KR and 6 psi but not sustained.

Should I be concerned about fueling like an old weak fuel pump-rewire it? Wrong spark plugs or gap? Try a downpipe?
 


Somewhat off topic question here since I'm still stuck with n/a for now, if it's showing kr and it's correcting timing, wouldn't adding an intercooler or other kr reducing mod eliminate that kr and produce more power even without other mods? Or is this not how kr and timing affect things. Just curious.
 
Reducing the knock would lead to more timing or that it would be running the timing that is commanded prior to knock and it "should" make more power there because no knock is present and it's not pulling potential power away.

Not every case is heat related though, so adding in a cooler air charge does not always mean the knock will completely go away. Sometimes it's octane related or that it's just running too much timing to begin with and it shows knock. Removing a restriction like exhaust in some case will stop knock as well and it will also slightly change the power curve.
 


Thanks ffdp! That's what I was thinking. Thanks for clearing that up for me. Crazy how there's untapped potential even with the stock pulley!
