Another Blower Motor Question.

Ok. I am new to your site but not to forums. I did some reading yesterday and did not find what I am looking for. I will make this as shot and to the point as i can.

I just purchased a 1998 Grand Prix. Got it at a good price since the blower motor is not working any speed.

Here is what i have done so far.

1. New Blower motor.
2. New Blower motor module <-- Yes Module. part # 52479971. Please see pic.

http://l458.com/misc/BlowerMotorModule.jpg

3. New Starter switch and wiring harness.
4. Cleaned ground connectors.
5. New Head unit. <-- old and new work the same
6. Fuses are good.

Ok. after all this the blower motor will now run but only runs on #1 & #2 setting. If i go up any higher the motor will cut on and off a few seconds then stop all together. I have checked the wiring harness for cut wires and also found no defects.

Well Obviously i am missing something. My only other guess is I have another bad Blower motor module. But before i go out and spend another $120.00 for this part I thought would pick you brains.

BTW, all the sites i have gone to, None of them show this module. they are all totally different.

Any help is much appreciated.

Its either the blower motor resistor, or the ignition switch. Ive never seen that module before so I suppose that could be the resistor module but it sure doesnt look like any of them I have seen before.

Sure sounds like resistor, mine was $20 looks like the one you got was a ton more. The resistor controls the speeds

Agreed it's more than likely the "Blower Motor Resistor". I did this a few weeks back. I got mine from autozone for like $16 bucks or something like that.

Ok,

Please see the attached image. My car does not have the blower motor resistor. It has this blower motor module. It mounts in the same place as the blower motor resistor.

Its 100% factory.

My part # is delco 15-8756 GM part 52479971

all the books and sites show the resistor of
delco 1580571 gm # 1213102 and several other.

The chiltons and Hays books also do not show my set up.

I am stumped.

Please advise were the "Resistor" will be located. Cause if it is in the Blower motor housing thats not it.

Thanks again for your help.

Hope my last post did not come across rude. If it did i apologize. I am at work and was typing fast.

I think i am going to research changing the Control unit wiring harness also as everything else is new.

Nope, not rude at all. Ive seen much worse. I would have to say then you have a very different beast because I have never seen that module before. Ive replaced my blower motor resistor too and did not see anything like that around there.

So to me that leaves the ignition switch if indeed that module takes the place of the resistor pack.

FYI.
Ignition switch is new also.

Just got off the phone with Pontiac. I will have to say my idea of replacing the harness is dead since they just told me this belongs to the main harness. I did not call around yet to find one cheaper but he told me $2800.00. Nope, Nope, Nope,

Back to the drawing board. May have to break down and buy a new Blower Control Module.

ack!

In a previous post, he said that he's replaced evryting including the ingnition switch. Starting to sound like something in the wiring maybe. But still wouldn't rule out a faulty part. It does happen from time to time.

Do you have anyone there, a friend or someone that has a GP like yours? If so see if you can swap the part with theirs and see if theirs does the same thing. Just a thought.

I dont know anyone that has a car like mine.

I feel i have covered all bases, i will see about checking the wiring harness as best as i can before buying and testing a new part. I was just hoping i missed something like a hidden relay, switch, or fuse. Usually when I get stuck like this it ends up being a real big PITA.

Daryl.

I'll see if I can do a little digging on it more also and see if I can find anything else that might be getting over looked.

Welp,

Opened up the dash and removed the glove box again. Checked and could not locate a short, "Will try again" Took every fuse out cleaned and check. Removed the main wire harnes block and cleaned every pin, & also removed and cleaned the main ground wire from the fuse panel under the hood.

I have rebuilt some water damaged car easier then this. grrrr.

Appears i will be purchasing a new Blower module just to be sure.

I dont know for sure, but you might ask if the parts store has a means to test the thing and check it, might save some hassle if they can.

when I looked your car up it listed the resistor
