These are known to be used as a RACE ONLY braking setup because the rotors are thinner than the GP rotors and will warp quicker than GP rotors.

Please someone post side by side pics of the front rotors with the view looking at the cooling fin areas so you can see the thickness of the surface area and cooling fins.

Yes, I can imainge that the warping would be an issue. My wife's malibu (same N-body as the grand am) has terrible brakes for the size of the car. I have tried many different pad and rotor combinations, but they don't stop well, and they are very prone wot warping. I am surprised that the current ones have been on almost a year and just starting to warp. Best ones I have found so far.

But in no way am I going to DOWNGRADE...yes, downgrade to thinner, smaller brakes. Just aint going to happen on my DD.

I know some do run these, Ron being one of them. And more power to him. Just not for me. :)
 


Ron, did you do any measurements to see how much thinner the GA rotors were compared to GP rotors. I havent had a problem with the GP rotors warping so I would imagine if the GA rotors werent much thinner it might not be a huge issue. Just a thought. Also, have you experienced any warping with your set up and the track passes you make?
 
It's not really a "race only" mod...that bad wrap came out of the Intense kits, as they used the backs on the fronts. Rotors are thinner (same diameter), stops about the same, however if you were doing these for weight savings, you probably are doing several other things for weight savings. Less weight means less power needed at the brakes. On a car that's portly, with full weight, or even added weight from stereo, etc...probably not a good option. On a car with AC delete, bonnie coil bracket, aluminum cradle...the usual stuff; yeah, go for it.

I have about 15K on my Grand Am's and I drive about 400 miles a week in stop and go rush hour traffic. No problems yet, no cracking, no warping.

Only thing I don't like about my brakes is the ABS crap, but I plan on chucking it eventually.

Did you just call my car fat!?!

Yeah, I haven't done much weight trimming because I don't race that often. So these probably are not for me.
 
The kit they used had a bigger weight savings, but the solid rotors in the front is definately not a good idea for a street car.
