amplifier position advice

A car doesnt bound and shake and give DIRECT VIBRATIONS to an amp like a sub box would.

If you want to go that route, mounting your amp to the sub box would be like driving a car with metal rods bolted fron your strut tower to your steering knuckle.
 


what i did was remove the trunk lining... got some short screws and bolted down some wood right next to the fuel pump cover... then put my lining back down.. ran the wiring by cuttin a small line under the amp.. and ran the wires thru it to the amp t. then put the amp to the wood bolted it down.. and added the box... 3 12's... no problems no issues and its a good idea to add l brackets from ya box to the wood.. mines look like chit now cause i had to replace the fuel pump a few days ago and i didnt take the time to neatin it back up. pix ill post later or tomorrow.
 
oo and bolting ya amp to ya box is a big no no.. it will fu(k up in due time..

And I have an even better analogy for the non beleivers.

Take your amp and strap it to your back and go for a walk. Sure there will be some minor shocks to the amp, but for the most part it is nothing since it is absorbed by your body.

Now take that amp, mount it to your washing machine and put it on spin cycle.

That is the type of vibraions times 100 that your amp will see if mounted to the sub box.
 
the first time i bolted it to the box.. the speakers and the amp were stolen... without any type of fight..... the second time i did that (bolt it to the box) the coils inside the amp broke all apart... soo since then i been playing around trying new places.. in my pops 88 surburban.. i mouted it inside the glove compartment... in a friend of mine buick century... bolted it to the back seat.. and in my gtp bolted as i listed above to the truck itself
 
what i did was bolted my amp to the plastic door in the back seat that leads to the trunk, and it was solid, didnt move a bit and still couldnt see the screws in it
 


i did that with my 1200 watt quantum amp.. but later switched to a bigger 1500d quantum amp which was longer and wouldnt let the the flap close.. now my crossover is there
 
onlly thing i hated is when ppl got in the back seat and wanna touch ish.. and i always leave it open due to heat.. dont want anything in my trunk to over heat or short out
 
i was lucky enough to not have a heat issue with it, i would post some pictures but i wrecked the car and no longer have it

ok sounds good, but after that accident, i didnt feel safe in another pontiac, even though i loved that car, thats why i bought something else
 
Mounting your amplifier is entirely dependent on the heat-sink design. If one side of the amplifier IS the actual heat sink then THAT side must be up at all times. If the sides of the amplifier are the actual heat sink then you can invert it all day long and the heat exchange will be exactly the same.

Your biggest concern is whether or not enough fresh air is running across the amplifier heat sink and making sure that the heat travels AWAY(up) from the circuitry.
 


I made a wall. Dynomatted the back of it and mounted fans on the rear deck lid for cooling. It did a few things....gave me a mounting place for the amp, hid the subs and prevented trunk rattles waaaay better than the dynomat did on my last GP. I have NO dynomat in my trunk (besides on the backside of the wall) and NO rattles.
