ambient air temp sensor

hoping someone could help me out on this. i'm trying to find where the ambient air temp sensor harness enters the cabin, and hooks into the i/p dash harness. i added the rearview with compass and temp, and i know that the stock harness is up front in the bumper, but i dont have the auto hvac, so those wires dont end up behind the hvac controls.... where do they stop?
 


If it's the sensor that tells the climate control/mirror outside temp, it should be somewhere behind the front bumper. That's where I've heard it was. I haven't looked for myself though.

yeah i know where that is, i want to know where wires disapear to once inside the dash... i.e. what plug they go to--- (my gtp doesnt have the auto cc, but the harness for the temp sensor is present in the bumper, but i dont see the unused auto CC plug behind the radio/manual CC in the dash... trying to figure out where the wires stop.

not sure.... i did just notice in my wiring location diagram that there's an inline connector for the sensor under the washer fluid tank/near battery, i'll need to look there and see if it's connected there or not. if it is, then it at least makes it to the inside of the car.... I i think it was farnsworth that had his GF's dash all apart searching for a short.... need him to pop in and point out where the main I/P harness connects to the wire bundle that comes into the car from the engine compartment.

Hey man, I need to find the sensor in the bumper... my thermometer has gone wacko (said it was negative (-36*) today.... it was closer to 95*), and I need to replace it.

Alright, well with lots more searching, and some feeling around on the car, I finally found the sensor. It's not something you can see...easily.

The best way to get to it is to go the front of your car and reach in the large opening in the bumper on the left. Then feel up and back, against the "wall" opposite side of you. It's attached with a christmas tree and just pops out. The sensor is connected with a regular plug. That's all you need to disconnect to remove it.

*hint* If you were to take the christmas tree out and let the sensor dangle, you would see it though the passenger side "lower fashia" in front of the radiator....

yeah, once I found it .... took all of a minute. I did "practice" swapping it out, just to make sure I could find the friggin sensor.....

part is between $10 and $20. I still need to call my local dealer to see if they have one in stock. My local dealer was closed, so I called one in Colorado (time zone change) to get the info. If they have it in, then I'll swap it out tomorrow. :D Disconnecting it did reset the temp... I'm also crossing my fingers and hoping that fixes it ;)

not to hijack the thread but does anyone know if all grand prixs have that sensor cause i crashed and my bumper broke off and i dont see anything there not even wires.
 
I don't know. Some of the descriptions that I came across were fairly radical (dual climate control yadda yadda yadda). GM uses this everywhere in the lineup as well.

The harness loom that the wire come off of is the one in FRONT of the radiator. You can't see it from the engine bay, the actual harness runs between the radiator and the front bumper cover. There is just a small loom with the one connector that comes down off the main harness for the sensor. I think you'd know if it was there since you just did a bunch of body repair. There is also a hole in one of the plastic air dams that the connector harness runs through.

i have a feeling the harness came off cause i see some wires torn on the right side of my car (pulley side), under turn signal assembly. and i couldnt tell wether they were for my horn, foglight, or the sensor. crash wasnt too bad. just took the right side of my bumper completely off.
 
hmmm.... I dunno, cuz this thing is alll by itself, not really near the blinker/fogs. That's too far over. This is almost directly below the black honeycomb intake.
 


yeah, replaced it for $12... and 1 minute of work... fixed it. :) very happy now.
