• The site migration is complete! Hopefully everything transferred properly from the multiple decades old software we were using before. If you notice any issues please let me know, thanks! Also, I'm still working on things like chatbox, etc so hopefully those will be working in the next week or two.

Almost done with top swap, but in serious need of help

Hey guys, we got all the hard parts mounted except for the harmonic balancer... we cant get the original off the engine. Thats problem number one.

Problem number two... the left engine mount (side closest to pulleys) will no longer fit, there is only one hole on the from head for a mount.

problem number three... We dont have vaccum line configs (I would really appreciate some pictures if you have them of the routing and where things go and what they look like)

problem number four... The belt assembly doesnt make sense to me. I feel like Im missing a pulley somewhere or I have an extra, I cant really take a picture because it was in the car and is difficult to show the whole assembly.

problem five... there is no PCV valce connection, so there is jsut a leftover connector on the harness... is this normal??

Please guys, Im almost done, I need my car back ASAP, I didnt think I would run into so many problems. If any one is in the area and willing to give me a hand in finishing, it would be greatly appreciated.

Are you using a pulley puller?

You should be using the mount from a supercharged engine. The one for non-supercharged engines will no longer work.

I see your edit. What PCV valve connector? The PCV valve on the non-supercharged sits under the MAP sensor. On the supercharged cars it sits in the blower.

Are you talking about the MAP sensor connector? Or EGR connector? Since there is no PCV connector we're playing guessing games.

I would assume he's talking about the MAP sensor, since it's the only one by the PCV valve on the NA engine. You need to extend that cable to connect to the new MAP sensor location, either splicing it yourself or getting an extension cable sold by most of the vendors.

yeah thats it, can someone show me where the map sensor is? and btw... the belt assembly is difference than above. The engine I pulled from is out of a 98 bonneville. There is one bracket with a tensioner and idler, but there's gotta be one more pulley by itsels... anyone know where this is, where to get it, and how it bolts to the block? the engine I bought didnt comewith that pulley. I made a thread not too long ago with a picture of the bracket I have.

yes we did try a pulley puller, but it just ripped the holes on the balancer open, and now they dont come out.

and where can I get the engine mount?/ anyone have a picture of it?

EDIT: would it just be easier to just get wiring diagrams to both cars, and then compare?

I know I need injector connectors as well, anyone know which ones I need and where I can get them? same goes for the MAP sensor extender.

The MAP sensor for the supercharged engine is a separate box that sits towards the back of the engine. You need this adapter to go from the non-supercharged connector to a supercharged MAP sensor:

ZZ Performance

(actually, you only need the black wire. That kit includes the connector for the BBV which isn't needed per say).

If you feel like splicing you could use this:

ZZ Performance

ok thanks, whats the difference with using the supercharger bypass connector and not? I got the PCM from ZZP with tables adjusted for a top swap... do I really need it? is it recommended, or just extra? And what about the injector connectors, have any idea which ones I need or where to get them? ZZP wants 40 bucks, but thats with a set of injectors... I just want the connectors...

two more questions... the map sensors have two connections on them for the wiring... and there was only one on the N/A, are they both MAP sensors and I need to split the wiring and combine? or do I need to get another connection for something? Is one of them not needed to be plugged in?

Next, can I just use my throttle body from my car with no reprucussions? the one on the engine I bought needs a sensor, but its a 98 which means it needs tables put in the PCM which will be expensive...

you are using one MAP sensor that has one connector on it. you should be using the l67 MAP. you need to get an adapter that goes from the l36 MAP connector to the l67 MAP connector.

you have to use the l67 throttle body. youre going to need to do a hell of a lot of tuning anyway..dont tell me you got into this without having a way to tune for it

I got a canned tune from ZZP. It should be okay for now, but I am gonna get it tuned eventually. I was going to reuse the throttle body, whats the difference between the two? according to the write up, they should work.

hey guys... heres whats up... Im gonna throw the stock on to get the car back up and running, Im sending out the L67 throttle body to ZZP and gettin a larger bore to replace it... So Im only going to use the old one as a temporary fix. I dont think the 4 mm will really matter as long as Im not reving up and openin her up all the way. Im just gonna order the GTP coil pack bracket, standoff, and harnesses for now, and get her back up and running.

I'll let you know what I find when I get the rest of the stuff and get her running again. I just need my car back haha... this is the longest Ive gone without it, and I can attest to you never know how much you need it till its gone. I feel empty without my car... first cars always have that effect though Im guessing.

Honestly, sounds like more research before hand would've done you some good. Being prepared makes all the difference.

well the main problem I had was the missing parts from the engine I bought and the difference of the 98 bonneville engine. I didnt find any information about the parts being different, or anything. I just figured they were the same. Its my fault I know it is, I'm just glad everything is straightened out right now and looks like it might shape up ok. It was a good tear down anyway, we found the head gaskets leaking and LIM gaskets leaking... its a 6 year old car, but still, at 48000 they shouldnt be that bad.

why did you send out the l67 TB when you could have went at it with a dremel for an hour and done it for free. if youre going to buy a throttle body or pay for one you might as well get a northstar then.
