Air Injection Relay connector replacement problem!

Anyone one out there know why all the new air injection relay and relay connectors are five pin yet on my 2000 grand prix GT, it's a 4 pin connector. I've looked everywhere (except the dealer) and I can't find a four pin connector. It looks like it was designed to use a standard four pin relay, such as the Ignition Main or Cooling Fan 1 relays that you would find in the power distribution box. Other than that fifth pin/wire, it looks virtually identical. The new relay's (I can find) for it are also 5 pin relays. I'm at a loss here. Unless there is missing wire buried back in the harness somewhere, I don't know what I'm supposed to do with this fifth middle pin/middle wire. I'm not 100% certain how this is supposed to be set-up anyway. Whomever owned this car before I did rigged the connector with a standard fan 1 relay by bending the pins so it would stay put and taping it up. Some of the wires were damaged too and just taped up. Probably explains why my ECM fuse blew and sent me on wild goose chase to solve 4 codes that appeared out of nowhere. Fixed now though. I would be grateful for input from anyone who knows about this model year Grand Prix GT.

Check out the12volt.com and look up relays. They do a great job explaining them. The basics of that extra pin is if the relay is not engaged, the input thatbecomes relayed when engaged is passed through to the fifth pin. So the input goes to either the one pin at rest or the other when engaged.

Thanks BillBost37. Looks like a cools site. In this case, the five pin relay works just fine in the four pin connector. But I need to replace the connector due to wiring damage and the replacement connectors I can find are all five pin and five wire. I don't know what to do with the fifth wire.

So, I've looked and looked and looked. I even checked the 99 through 2001 model years. They are all calling for a five pin relay and a five wire relay connector for the air injection system.....I don't have the service manual for this car and the Haynes manual was useless on this subject. I might be able to answer my own question if I had a wiring diagram. Anyone have a wiring diagram for 2000 Grand Prix GT Vin K?

Good to hear you figured it out. You should post a pic or the info just in case someone in the future asks.
