ahhhh damn truck With PICTURES now

Re: ahhhh damn truck

Good! My boyfriend has a 99 Silverado and is tossing around the idea of body lift, but I don't like them.
So imo, your doing it right lol

sub'd for pictures
tell him to just crank on the torsion bar and throw some blocks in the back if he's looking to cheap out.

danielle, the body lifts arent all that bad for these trucks, its by far the cheap way to lift it with out sacrificing the ride of the truck, and can be done in like 2 hours, tell him to make sure he gets the front and back bumper relocation kits with it if he does do a body lift.

i had a 3 inch body lift on my 97 gmc 4x4 3500.

and dont just crank on the t bar bolts, its almost as bad as the t bar keys, kills the ride. you can only gain about a inch of hieght by cranking them in all way.

Re: ahhhh damn truck

He already put blocks on it and stiffed up the front end due to using it to plow snow and weight of the plow ect.
I just don't like the looks of the body lifts cuz it separates things to much (like you said the bumpers, idk if he's looked into that relocation kit or not).
IMO, do a suspension.

I'm trying to sway him that way but idk.
He barely drives it anymore and really has no reason to lift it.
Just being difficult and wanting to spend money on truck/jeep/car instead of me, lol.

Ok, end of thread hijacking :)

Re: ahhhh damn truck

this is my 03 keys up front 2 1/2 inch blocks in the rear. i got about 3 inches total added hieht with the 33's.

Re: ahhhh damn truck

I never had a problem w/my 4r100, ever. My e4od died at 315,xxx miles. They were not easy miles either, pulled lots of trailers well over 65mph.

This is funny considering gtp guys bashing other oem transmissions.

Re: ahhhh damn truck

In 8 years at Aamco, I lost count of 4R100 rebuilds- The one 4L80E I did was because a guy hit a deer, and kept driving with a leaking Tranny cooler. I'm not knocking any of em, the more they break, the more $$$ I make :D

Re: ahhhh damn truck

I was unaware his was a 2500, but that would be comparing a 4R100 to a 4L80E...Which there ain't no comparing. ;)

my 03 had one of them 4l80E's and it took one hell of a beating. (snow plowed every year and towed a big boat every weekend sat and sun) and it was flushed every 30,000 miles, it did start to slip in reverse only, took it back to the dealer. had a warranty still. they rebuilt it 3 times and it kept blowing till they put in a nice shiny new one, for free!

not sure what trans my 97 had but it blew at 160,000, it was worked just as hard as the 03, no mercy for my work trucks. the differance here was i just lost revese all together. like something just broke, it never slipped.

Re: ahhhh damn truck

Gravity has weird rules when it comes to motor vehicles. Trucks go up, and cars go down. I wonder what Sir Isaac Newton would drive.....

Re: ahhhh damn truck

all my trucks went up, i cant stand the look of a low truck (slammed) i was so happy to see how high my truck sat stock, it must be the snow plow prep package it has, this one sat 3 inches higher than my 97 when it was stock, i did a 3' body lift on that one.

those wheels are like 10 years old in this pic too, they were on the 97 from the 1 st year i bought that one, kept them nice and reused em. both gmc's were green too.

i need a scanner for pics, i have hundreds of pics of both trucks, but they are all on real film. the pics with the ladder racks are priceless too, when i say work truck i mean work truck in every sense.

and newton would be driving a hydrogen powered car, because he was smart!

Re: ahhhh damn truck

pictures!!! sorry the truck was clean but i drove down a dirt road today.

the truck from wheel well to the ground all 4 sits 39 inches from the ground. which isnt to bad. i had 40 but one of the torsion bars is weak.

3" lift, New keys in the front, and arched leaf springs No blocks.
with monroe Reflex shocks. brand new.
and 285-65-18 BFG tires im wondering if 315-65-18 used tires will fit i found a deal.

also i had a flowmaster 40 series muffler installed :D

hows the ride now? does it ride like a old solid axle truck to you yet? mine did, keep an eye on your shocks if they didn't use a relocation bracket on the bottom of the shocks. mine snapped 2 shocks. and thats from having no down travel, and the bottom dropping out when hitting large bumps and what not.

looks a lot better than the stock height , that's for sure.

no they lied to me, so i added washers under the bushing and that worked.
