Aftermarket Stereo Install and Steering wheel controls

Hello All...I'm new to this forum, but not new to the Pontiac family. I have a 2000 Grand Prix GTP that's super charged.

My question is this: I need a new stereo installed in the vehicle...the factory streo just isn't doing it for me. I need to plug in my iPod! But before I started this install myself, I wanted to find out if there was a part for me to buy to make sure my steering wheel controls work with my new aftermarket CD player. I haven't purchased the CD player yet, but I plan to go TOP OF THE LINE to ensure that I get all the needed options.
Please let me know guys!!! Thanks in advance!

If you want to get your stock one to work with an Ipod it is possible. Just a cheaper thought than buying a new HU. However, if nto there is a harness you will have to purchase. The people who know the exact name will be in shortly I assume

well i'd like to weigh my options. what are the steps to make my factory stereo work with my iPod? And for a new HU, where would I be able to find this harness?

Any Beat shop should have the harness you need. Also depending on what HU you get you will also need the code to program you new HU to the steering wheel controls. Not sure what you have around there I got mine at Fry's Electronics, but I'm sure Best Buy or Circuit City would have them also.

You just need something like this for steering wheel interface.....PAC SWI-X Steering wheel control interface — use your factory steering wheel controls with an aftermarket stereo at Crutchfield.com. It can be a PITA to program sometimes. (like when you mess up and have to start over) And for the Ipod connector, some HU's will come with it, and others will have one that you can purchase separately. Just plug and play.

Aint that the truth I messed up a few times, had to stop, get a beer and relax for a sec then go back lol. And yes depending on what HU even with an Ipod jack you may still need a certain type of adapter to access all features of the HU

Top of the line will set you back much more than a grand just for a head unit.

If all you want is ipod and SWC, you dont need to spend anywhere near that.
