aftermarket HU. steering wheel controls & aux input

Hello,
Ive got a 99 gpgt with steering wheel controls.
We put an aftermarket radio in it because the stock one was awful.
I am looking into getting a new HU so that I can have aux input for an ipod. I also want to get a radio so that I can get a kit to have my steering wheel controls to work again with the aftermarket.
I saw in another post that the radio had to have a certain plug in for the steering wheel control adapter.
Does anyone know how to find out if the HU has this? Or what its specifically called?
Im not partial to brands, pioneer or kenwood or clarion. I have a clarion now and was happy with it (its 5 years old now and has been transfered from 3 vehicles) and its yet to let me down.

Any advice would be appreciated.
If there is a post already relating to this, you can copy it.

Thanks!

I would suggest you go to Crutchfield.com and use their Outfit My Car tool to find what fits your car. (Whether you buy from them or not is up to you....) In the description of the stereo features it will say something about steering wheel controls. For example, this model, Clarion CZ500 says "compatible with most factory steering wheel audio controls (adapter required)" .
