Aeroforce detecting misfires

I have an Aeroforce Interceptor scan gauge and it is picking up random misfires. They are registering on almost all cylinders randomly. No codes. Sometimes it reads 2 misfires then I've seen 86+ on some. I had this issue some before I replaced all the ignition components. (I now have ZZP coils, ZZP Wires, Iridium 104 plugs and a new Ignition module AIRTEX / WELLS 6H1045)

It really doesn't feel like its misfiring...... Any Ideas???

Id blame the ZZP coils. Im pretty sure ive read somewhere that they are just relabeled MSD coils and those are known to misfire.

Ill have to look into that. Going by the pic below they are different. Maybe I will just bite the bullet and get all stock ignition when I get the money. I will have to pay attention and see if its a specific coil causing the issue. Anyone else with an Aeroforce?? Can you look at the misfire setting that shows all the cylinders and see if there are any random readings?

Over what time frame are these misfires? Misfires happen, motors are not perfect so if its 86 over a few hours that would make sense, 86 in a minute would not. Go to your Junkyard and grab some stock coils.

it is within minutes/seconds. I may still have the stock coils I took off in the garage, I'll look when I get home from work. I will switch them out and see if it helps. I'm going to try and find out how the record and playback option works on the Aeroforce so I can get a more accurate count and frequency.

What year is the car? The Ignition Control Module on the series 2 can crack and go bad and cause random missfires.

It is a 2004 Comp G. I'm going to have to inspect it. It reads a lot of misfires while in stop and go traffic and slower coasting but not much when I go WOT. I replaced the ICM but will look for any cracks as well as inspect the coils this weekend.

I put the old stock coils back on and replaced the ZZP wires with the MSD ones I had. I also have a random stock wire for cylinder 4 because one of the MSD wires broke taking them off when I replaced them with the ZZP ones. The ZZP wires fit sloppy on the plugs and coils. the sock and MSD fit much better.

The misfire issue got better but still have some random misfires. I think the stock 2-5 coil is bad because I noticed more on those two cylinders now. I am ordering the stock AC DELCO wires and aftermarket stock coils from ZZP with a credit I have. so we shall see if it gets better with those. I have new XP104 iridium plugs so I dont think that is the issue. I also replaced the ignition module at the same time. I'm not sure where to look next?? I clean the MAF frequently. The upstream o2 sensor is OE and has 163k miles so maybe I will replace that. any other suggestions?

If the misfires are only at idle and don't actually cause the SES for a P0300 random misfire code, the problem is pretty normal.

Modded 3800 always tend to misfire at idle, doesn't help that they try to idle at 600-650rpm. A 800 rpm idle would be better and likely show less.

My 2000 GTP when I owned it with headers, pulley, tune and autolite plugs should random misfire at idle only and never threw a code.

That's kind of good to hear! I know the ZZP wires were causing some of the issue. The terminals fit loose and wiggled around. On two different occasions I had to stop on the highway because one popped off the plug and another popped off the coil. I was getting 60-80+ misfires on random cylinders but mostly #2. So far I have lower numbers, even though I have a bad stock coil. Once I get the new wires and coils I'll see where its at. If good I will put the ZZP coils back on and see if they cause an issue just for piece of mind.

Thanks for the help. Ill update next week sometime
