Hey, I got an 02 GTP Coupe Supercharged. Found the other day there is a crack in the exhaust pipe under the driver/passenger seat. I am going to be replacing the whole set-up but didnt know what to go with. Was thinking about a glasspack system thats really low sounding idle and gets higher pitched when I accelerate. Let me know what worked for you and what to stay away from. Thanks

Just get either a muffler shop to fab you up a cat-back, with the longest glasspack you can find for a resonator, and 2 decent muffers, orrr get the ZZP Catback with a resonator.
Our cars sound like crap with just glasspacks, and sound really raspy without a resonator. Also, stay away from chambered mufflers..

Borla mufflers are the tits.
Magnaflow and flowmasters arent bad either.

Contradicted yourself. Flowmasters are chambered mufflers.

But he's right, make sure you have either a res or glasspack, and a set of non-chambered mufflers.

Meh, I do what I want. A friend of mine in St. Augustine has some flowmasters on his GT, and it did sound good, until about 5k rpm...But that pretty much stands for any muffler...

Didnt know they were chambered. Learn something new everyday. XD

I got it up on a lift last night and it turns out that it is not a leak in the pipe but actually a rusted out hole in the resonator the size of a pop bottle lid. When I was under there I was under there I took a long look at it and got an idea. I am gonna cut the resonator out, pipe it from the cat then put a y pipe in and then put 2 performance mufflers and tips in. What do you think of that idea?

if you are going to go that route run 3in pipe with a the longest 3in glaspack you can find for a resonator to a y pipe that reduces it to 2.5in then go with some magnaflows single or dual straight throurghs, depending on how loud you want it. this is what i run on mine it sounds great, 0 rasp with a nice deep tone.

3in exhaust is over board. If you want to save money go with 2.5 exhuast.

Or just remove your stock res and replace it with a glasspack, then leave the rest of the exhaust alone, aftermarket mufflers on these cars sound like crap.

You absolutely want a resonator of some kind..either a legit resonator, or a long ass glasspack, otherwise you will drone, and rasp pretty bad.

2.5" pipe is more than fine. 3" is pretty much only usefull for very high power builds.

Yeah I went and talked to my mechanic today. I am going to be cutting out the resonator and replacing it with a glasspack. So what your saying though is I don't need to worry about mufflers? And would tips make any noticable difference other then visually?

Tips will just be for asthetics. You can get mufflers if you want it to be louder, but just go ahead and get the glasspack installed, and see how you like the sound. If you want it louder, then get a pair of mufflers.

Got the car back from the shop. Has the glasspack in the place of the res with stock pipes and mufflers. Sounds exactly the same as it did before I found the leak in the res. So tonight I am cutting the mufflers off and gonna put on some performance mufflers on in a few days.

Go back up there and get that u-bend taken out of you didn't do that...that is the 1st order of business as it is probably the poorest design on the entire car.

As for mufflers...don't get anything chambered.

Wow, I cut the mufflers out of the car and what a difference. It sounds frickin' beastly, really low at an idle then when I accelerate it gets louder and a higher pitch. There is about 2ft from where I chopped it to the end of the bumper. Should I put mufflers or just pipe it into a set of tips?

put mufflers in.

It gets quieter in the cabin if you have the turn downs or have the exhaust get into the molded tip part of the bumper.
