adding remote start to a 2006 base GP

hello everyone, I know this question has been beat to death but I have a question for someone out there who's already got remote start (the factory system only) what is the part # for your BCM ? and what is the year of your car? and lastly what's the option code for remote start. I'm thinking I may invest in a BCM and get it programmed along with the remotes from a dealer but I want to make sure I give myself the best chance possible.
I appreciate your help in advance

I don't think you can just simply swap out BCMs. To install the factory remote start is going to be ridiculous price, and could go with a car alarm with built in remote start for cheaper. Just my two cents.

Yeah, you'll need a new BCM to be reprogrammed. 04+ have their BCM locked, so things can't be added. Mine as well just get a aftermarket remote start install instead.

?? i think you have some Mis-info on that one. With the correct VIN of a car that has the option the BCM can be programmed with the Tech 2.

No I don't. The car doesn't have the option or it would have came with the remote start from the factory.

To expand, I tried to install the heated seats option into my car, but I was unable to becauase the BCM is locked and new options cannot be added.

correct i understand, however the BCM is not locked, and can be added to the vehicle, you need to have the Extended range antenna, the BCM is not a issue

It is correct that the BCM's are locked with one little exception that I know of involving the remote start. When you buy the kit from GM it comes with a code or someother electronic way of unlocking just that option on the bcm and only one one car per kit.

So buying the kit from the dealer and having them program it will work flawlessly, but to do it without the dealer we would have to get around the bcm unlocking issue and all.

The bcms are the same part number and just the programming within them has changed. I forget what the kit itself costs from the dealer.
If you have the plus sign on the back of your remotes you already have the long range antenna or remote reciever installed.
