Adding regular K&N Air Filter add horsepower?

Thinking of just putting in a classic K&N filter. Does this add any horsepower? Is it worth doing? Any opinions will be helpful!

Well Curt I give you my opinion. I have used K&N filters for nearly twenty years and they are good filters. In my experience they are/were the shizzle for carbureted engines, but not so much of a difference for fuel injected ones. Even though so far the comments have been tame this site generally dislikes K&N. That said, the filter may add a sliver of HP kind of like what Nick said. Going to a short ram intake would make more of an impact in the HP department. I still use them mainly because they are cost effective over the long haul, and they are a good quality product. Every K&N filter I buy is the first and last air filter for my cars.
 
I understand where people are coming from when they dislike on K&N, but if you want one, get one. I run one and have no issues.
 
With just a regular K&N air filter, you won't notice a difference in power. I say build your own CAI..would add more power that way.
 
Compared to other off the shelf filters, I thought the K&N made mine *better*, it seemed to accelerate to upper R's *better*. If there's actually more measureable HP, I can't say. But I'm handing mine over to a dealer as a trade in a couple days so what do I know. :th_laugh-lol2:
 


Thanks for all the opinions lol. I purchased it and installed it today. Your right when you say you wont notice any major horsepower differences. I might feel a bit on acceleration but nothing spectacular lol. But for 40 bucks i dont think it was a waste of money. Dont need to worrry about changing the filter again! Just clean and oil the odd time. :) Thanks guys
 
Just remember at cleaning time too much oil has created problems for people, coating the MAF, etc. Unfortunately part of it is design placement. Example on my bikes, the oiled side is placed face down sucking air upward, in these and other car designs the oiled side is placed face up suckiing air downward, in turn airflow and just plain gravity is drawing the oil into the intake. When I clean and oil, I try to let the clean side sit face down with a few paper towels to draw out a bit of the excess. I'm not sure this is the greatest method but has seemed to keep me out of trouble.
 


I put in a K&N air filter last week.
IMO K&N air filters are the best replacement air filters on the market.
They also allow more air to flow, as they are designed with minimum restriction in mind.
If you want noticeable HP Get rid of the air box and get a cai.... or just install the K&N stickers that came with our 40$ filters. (i did. at least 69HP from them)

Just 'gutted' the airbox. After doing that and with the k&n filter i dont really notice any more horsepower but do notice a more 'throaty' tone to the engine
