• The site migration is complete! Hopefully everything transferred properly from the multiple decades old software we were using before. If you notice any issues please let me know, thanks! Also, I'm still working on things like chatbox, etc so hopefully those will be working in the next week or two.

Adding a rule against sh*t posting

Should sh*t posting be a warnable offence?

Every now and then... someone comes along and hi-jacks a thread, we debate like idiots since no one seems to want to answer to anyone over the internet and then... one idiot decides, he's had enough and will post INTENTIONALLY stupid posts in a thread that has already been hi-jacked.

This should be considered an infraction since getting off topic is already one to begin with but to waste pages of posts and just fustrating people is a whole new level of "i have no life".

And I'm talking about the thread where I got my first infraction for this lovely little diddy: http://www.grandprixforums.net/f18/9-11-lbs-boost-stock-pulley-26210.html#post301557

Take a look at what it has become and then decide.

I was just saying hello and thought maybe we could talk about this rule.. Well i believe this should be a rule because daily people probably search for information and when they see a thread that says what they are looking for and they open the thread and all the talk is about something completely unrelated to the topic its pretty annoying..

Thats just my .02

It is only an issue when the poster is intentionally posting irrelevant or knowingly false information merely to annoy other users or for their own amusement which is usually due to the former.

The issue you speak of would be solved if more people took these convos to the off-topic section instead of continuing them in the existing thread.

I see what your saying.. I remember reading a thread where someone asked if it was possible to supercharge a N/A car and everyone told him he couldnt.

its possible to mount a 10 L supercharger to one.

Or get some turbos off of a Veyron and mount 'em up.

Add in most people here are dicks, then consider we see the question at least once a week.

BOOM, instant sarcasm.

The issue is, people post before reading when adding a supercharger to a car should be something you should search in deatil.

Allow me to show you a quick example...

Google the terms "Supercharge grand prix gt" and you get this:

supercharge grand prix gt - Google Search

And the first link is this:

Supercharger for a Grand Prix GT??? - Yahoo! Answers

Question: "
Supercharger for a Grand Prix GT???

I have a 1998 Grand Prix GT and i want to supercharge it. Is it possable? what do you have to buy to do it? Has anyone out there done this? Please Help!"

chosen answer:

"
WOW, some people on here... just WOW. Anyway, yes, it is possible. Yes, people do it all the time. As in a matter of fact I have a 00 GP GT and i put a supercharger on it myself.

Anyone that says a turbo is cheaper or more reliable is just, well, lets be nice and just say wrong. Sure it will make a bunch more power. But a decent turbo kit for your car will be between 3-5k. Not to mention the transmission you will have to buy because you will destroy yours in a very short time with a turbo, so add another 2.5-3.5k for that.

The guy who said it would cost under 1k to supercharge is probably the only person here who said something correct.

Here are some things you will need:

GTP Supercharger w/ bolts and pulley
GTP Throttle body
GTP Fuel Injectors
GTP Lower Intake Manifold
GTP Cylinder Heads w/ valve covers
Passenger motor mount
GTP Harmonic Ballencer
GTP supercharger belt tensioner and idler pulleys
GTP MAP sensor
GTP Vacuum lines
Head Gasket set
Head Bolt Set
Lower Intake Manifold Gasket
GTP Valve Cover Gaskets
Supercharger gasket and coolent O Rings
Throttle Body Gasket
MAP/BBV harness adaptors
PCM Tune

I know the list looks long, and i'm probably missing a few things, but if you look around you will be able to find everything you need for under 1k.

Edit: The parts above are not really in a "kit", they are the OEM parts that GM put on the supercharged Grand Prixs,(except the custom PCM tuning you will need to have done) and you are doing something wrong if you cant find all that for under 1k.

Also, a supercharger makes all of its torque down at lower RPM, which is why people break "hard parts" (such as input shafts) in the transmission with supercharged cars. Your at a dead stop, you punch it, instantly get boost (absolutely no lag like there is in turbos, even small ones) and bam, your input shaft is in 2 pieces. However, to be able to do that you need way more power then with just a supercharger (cam, headers, intercooler, highly increased boost, etc.) Turbos are bad for transmissions because they do make a bunch more power, however it is at the top end of the RPM band. This just happens to be as the transmission is shifting, which is why turbo cars have problems with stretching drive chains and destroying "soft parts" in the trans like the internal clutches.

You need to ask yourself what the goals you have for your car are. With a supercharger and other minor modifications (intake, exhaust, sitcky tires) 13s in a 1/4 mile are easy. It is usually cheaper to hit the 12 second mark in a GP with a supercharger (you need things like a cam and/or intercooler). However if you want to be able to go faster, like 11s, a turbo is the way to go. Once you start to get into the 12s, however upgraded trans parts like a hardened input shaft is recommended. I wouldn't waste my money on a decent turbo kit unless i had a reserve of enough cash to buy a nice trans to go with it.

Note that was posted TWO YEARS AGO.

See how EASY it is to find that answer?

It took me LITERALLY 30 seconds to find all i needed yet it takes more than that to register for this site and post up that question.

Why do people expect everyone else to spoon feed them when they can search around first.

If you STILL can't find it then state that, "I've tried looking but can't find anything, how do I _______?" and then someone will probably post a link to a sticky if it exists and probably mock your searching skills.

but you still get your answer....

He got banned because of it anyway...after a warning in a previous thread that was locked. So for that one person, problem solved. Other people or sarcasm is a different matter. Don't forget to help out the mods by using the exclamation point to point out a bad post if someone is crossing the line repeatedly.

Hey where is that 400HP corolla?

**** I thought it was here...well I am on my way ^_^ Just playing guys.

I agree **** posting does get annoying and I am a lot a bit slow on the whole reading thing so when there are 15 pages of posts on a question that I want an answer on well it takes me a while to get through all the **** just to get to the end and realize no one even answered the damn question and there I am back to square one and 2 hours of my life wasted reading about who's ego is bigger and I am smarter than you so I am gonna be a smart ass.

My 2 cents if you like it take it if you don't well send it right back.

if it brings back the chat im down! BRING BACK THE CHAT..:) i hope thats still on topic matt? i intended it to be anyway lol.

It's not to difficult to set up and IRC chat... just call it #gpforum or something like that and put a pass on it. Then make a sticky on the intro page for the IRC chat and have the info in that sticky and as they are there reading that include the other important information that new people should read.

And opera users don't need to download anything.

There is now an IRC channel at irc.opera.com

Channel is "#grandprixforums"

Pass is "gtp"

Seems i'm a total noob and can't get the password to stay.

yes u would need to dl mIRC at mIRC: Internet Relay Chat client and because we are useing the irc.opera.com server you will need to setup a new server.

Do so by first downloading mIRC and then opening mIRC and it will prompt you to enter all your Login information like your full name email address ect.

then after you are done with that on the left side under connect there is the

"Server" option in the list click that
Then click "Add"
Now enter the description i.e. GPforum
and the server you want to connect to is
irc.opera.com
the port stays as is "6667"
and now click add now you will see your server called GPForum or w/e you had entered now double click that. It will now take you back to your information page. All you will have to do now is click connect.

after you are connected a list of favorite chats will pop up you can close that and in the server chat page you want to type in:

/join #grandprixforums gtp

and if you had done everything correctly you will now be connected and joined into the grandprixforums chat. I will stay connected while I am at work so when you do join you should see me there username "AdamBall"

I hope this helps maybe if I have time after work I will take a few screen shots or make a small video just to show everyone how to get connected to the mIrc chat.
