• The site migration is complete! Hopefully everything transferred properly from the multiple decades old software we were using before. If you notice any issues please let me know, thanks! Also, I'm still working on things like chatbox, etc so hopefully those will be working in the next week or two.

add on supercharger

stock tranny holds up to 300 hp ok . you not gonna be that high with a top swap, so if you dont flat out beat the crap out of the tranny it should hold up.

Look at it this way. A GTP comes stock with the same trans. Yea it's possible that you can F that up but w/ way more power then what a GTP comes with a turbo more then likely will destroy a stock tranny.

The install on a turbo isn't for everyone. Sometimes custom is needed. But there's a full write up on doing a top swap that you can follow.

Nothing bad about turbo but can come out pricey. It's all about catching a deal and doing your homework. Check local junkyards, eBay and classifieds u can find a deal on topswaps. Not everyone's is after maximum power. Some will be happy with a topswap and call it a day. Nobody can tell you what you'll be happy with..that's why I suggest test driving a GTP and if your happy...go for the top swap. If or when you get bored..cam,rockers etc are always available at a later date to give some more pep. Turbos is what $1500+. This whole to turbo or go home crap gets old not everyone is chasing 10 sec cars. /rant.
I for one never said go turbo or go home. In fact I have own both and prefer a turbo kit on these cars compared to a S/C setup. The car is a different animal and much more fun to drive. The whole arguement was the fact that going turbo is cheaper in the long run compared to going top swap, regardless if you use used parts or new parts... Meaning you get more power for the money. And not everyone who goes turbo is seeking every ounce of power out of it. If that was the case I would have gone with a larger turbo than a 61mm along with a cam. Instead I opted to go with a turbo kit, 1.9 rockers, plog, and cutout cause 350whp to me in a FWD for a daily was plenty of power. However, there is always room to grow and I will NEVER hit a wall like someone will on a S/C setup.

dude this is dumb, dont listen to this guy, you dont need 1/2 of what he listed.

go to a junk yard buy a top swap, dont go and buy all this kit crap and pay 1000 bucks, thats just dumb.

theres top swaps for 350 and 400 complete here in the 4 sale sections as well. and headers another 200. you will need a gasket kit and new head bolts.

and if you dont want to pay top dollar stay the F away from ZZpoopie. go slow and broke using them.

if you have a grand to spend, then top swap is the only way to go. turbo will cost more.

dont waste your money on rockers either, cam it or dont bother.
Reading comprehension owns you. So sad, but this is the internet and lots of young kids on this site. I used new parts to make the arguement of equal power to money wise. Again if we want to play the used parts game we can do that all day and a turbo kit will still come out cheaper when both power levels are the same.I wrote it in big words to help you understand the point of my post. And you recommending a cam just further proves my point since it will end up costing more than what I totaled in my previous post.

What is the life span of a turbo compared to a supercharger? S/C rotors last longer than turbine fins?

High compression block makes more power than a stock gtp from what I understand. Waaaay cheaper to go topswap vs turbo. I think I could do either for less than $800 and do it right. But I have a junkyard in walking distance and a shop to do all my work in the same distance too.

You really make little to no sense. Honestly. And I read your posts thoroughly.

It's hard to understand that going turbo will give you the most horsepower for the money?

No one is arguing that a top swap initially isn't cheaper. After a person top swaps most are going to want headers then cam/rockers then smaller pulley etc. That person will get to a point where they will have ended up spending more money to get the same amount of horsepower over time than if they had just gone turbo.

But the majority of members on this board are young and need instant gratification with little cost to them.

you pretty much NEED headers with a top swap because of the high compression block. i wouldnt risk it.
in this case i agree with slow.
if you know youre going to be modding heavily down the line, i suggest going turbo before you spend all this money on a supercharged setup and realize you hit a wall.

id rather go topswap myself any parts u might break along the way can b found at any jy or p store plus a blower has a smoother power curve ive driven both turbo and sc and i like sc WAY more

plus you hav a plastic upper intake so you would hav to do most of a topswap (empty m90 case w/snout blockoff plate) to make it survive. upper intakes on n/a 3.8 blow all the time w/o boost as it is as to the turbo killing trannys idea that is bcause turbos lag and wen they spool up they basically unload on the tranny

Have to agree with tsxslow6 on this one. If you want to start modding your gp whether it be with an m90 or a turbo, bottom line is you need some money set aside. How are you going to go about tuning? If you don't know anybody who can hook you up, you'll need to buy a tuner and pay someone to tune it. Or you can learn to do that yourself, but since you're here asking these types of questions, I doubt you could handle that. How much power do you want to make? I'm assuming when you fork out at least $800 + money for tuning you will be very tempting to go wot more than a few times. I'd have money aside for a built trans. So that will be $2k+. We need to know the op's goals before we can make the best suggestion. If he just wants and extra 40-50whp then I'd recommend a topswap. But if he wants to get 280+whp numbers, turbo is what I'd recommend.

What? Do you realize how many people have a L36 UIM and running a turbo kit? Infact there are plenty of guys who do a L36 top swap instead of running a block off plate. So it's more "harmful" on the tranny when there is lag and boost is building progressively than an M90 where power is instant and there's a sudden jolt to the trans? How does that make sense? Can you elaborate?

i got a friend who owns a shop and he does tuning and all that so i got that part...he tuned my stratus when i had a turbo on it lol that tranny didnt last long at all. but as far as transmissons go i know how to put them in with my friends help. but i dont think i want to turbo a car again i want to top swap it.

tx u ever neutral drop a transmission? blowers make boost from idle up and dont lag b4 all of a sudden building boost

used parts are where its at. you'll be around a grand for a top swap. maybe a bit more. with all bolts and gaskets and fluids. ( you should really squeeze a set of headers in the budget) you'll have a tad more HP then a gtp. and the stock tranny should be ok if you dont flog it daily.

just shop smart, take your time looking for parts, as one day nothing, then bam! what you want is up for sale at a price you like. or can live with.

i spend 3 months trolling craigslist for wheels. i watched a set re listed 3 times, then i called for them lol got 100 off his asking price too. he was happy to get rid of them.
