ABS / Traction Light

2000 GP GT. So, I am trying to get everything fixed on my girl's grand prix. She claims that she got stuck one year in snow and while she was trying to get unstuck, her ABS and Traction light popped on, now neither works. I took it to a mechanic and they said the module, by the Drivers side strut tower, does not have power and the gave me the wire schematic for it, they wanted so much per hour to try and find where the power wire might be broke. So, I tried jumping power to it from the battery and it still doesn't work. I put it on a code reader and all that came up was some MAF code(another thing to fix). Does anyone have experience with this?
 


ABS sensor on one of the wheel hubs could be bad. There is a plug behind each of the front wheels by the axle shafts, look there and see if any of the wires have been pulled out. when she was stuck, something could have snatched a wire. Check those wires out and get back with us and let us know your findings. We'll start with the simple stuff first.
 
if it has no power did you check the fuse?
I dont remember which fuse it is labled abs.

Regal has at least 3 abs fuses :-/
 
Yeah, checking the fuses was the first thing I did. I used a DMM on each fuse in the car and under the hood. I know that a wheel bearing in the back was replaced, but that didnt seem to help. I got to take the front wheels off for new struts, so I will check everything out while I am there. It is just weird that the ABS module under the hood did not have power like it should.
 
I think when the computer detects a fault (broken wire, bad sensor etc) it kicks the lights on and disables the ABS system indefinitely...which may explain why there was no power to the module. On the back of the hub right under the axle is where the wire for the ABS comes out, they are notorious for rubbing/breaking. Best is to get a mirror to see behind or sometimes just snap a pic with a digital camera behind the tire with the flash on, let you first take a look at the wiring for any obvious problems before you tackle one side or another. ABS codes need a special scanner from a dealership or garage, they are not OBD2 codes.

Very good info. Thank you. I am going to try and tackle that on Sunday. The car has 150,000 miles so it is very possible that something might be worn or broke around the wheels.

Does the traction control work off the same module?
 


When i bought my grand prix the dealer told me that the front right sensor connection was bad. I bought the car and still need to replace the old harness with the new harness specially made for grand prix. it has a new path and retaining clips to prevent it from rubbing and breaking again. Anyone have any words of wisdom on how to put in the new harness?
