ABS Trac Off light on

I have a 1999 Pontiac Grand Prix GTP. For the past few weeks my ABS and Trac Off lights have been on. I've done some research and most of it points to the ABS module. The only difference from everything I've found online is that, when my lights are off, it's much more difficult to stop, I hear the grinding noise, and I have to begin slowing down a lot sooner. But when the lights are on (they usually come on after driving just a few minutes and usually stay on the entire trip) I have no problems stopping and don't hear any unusual sounds. I was planning on selling this car soon, and don't want to spend the $900 the local dealership quoted me (without seeing my car) so if anyone could point me in the right direction for what I should check and attempt to replace myself, I would greatly appreciate it.

I had my brakes and rotors (front) and one hub replaced a few months back.

i had a similar issue not too long after i bougth my 02 gt. ended up being that the wire from the hub to the engine bay had corroded and lost continuity on the front drivers side. there is also the same wire on the passengers side. i had the local junkyard cut this wire out of a junker and spliced it into the harness then insulated the f*** out of it. i havent had an issue with it since (over a year ago)

Yea same issue I had when the lights were off the car just didn't wanna stop , abs would kick in way too much , I would put my money on wheel hubs , jack the car up and put Your hands on opposite sides of the tire to see if there's any play
