ABS / trac control light back on....

Hi. I'm a newbie here, so be gentle....2004 GTP, 100k miles. ABS / TC light came on couple weeks ago...went to Autozone and had scanned, they said it showed left front sensor bad. Checked wheel bearing and there was slight play in it, so installed new hub w/bearing and sensor. Lights stayed off for about 10 miles, then came back on. They have done this several times after restarting car. Went back to AZ and scan showed nothing wrong. Still getting lights now and then. Could this be a wire problem from sensor to module??? Why wouldn't scan have shown this??? Suggestions ???

I believe you have to leave the car on and running when you get the abs light for the scanner to read it. It resets soon as you shut the car off. Could be wires, yeah. This issue seems to come up about every other day here.

If it comes and goes my money is on the wiring harness. The stock piece runs the wires in this outer jacket that turns hard and brittle. You just crimp the replacement on and route it to the sensor. $20 some bucks each from Rockauto. Try that next on the side that keeps giving you fits.

Had a very similar sounding problem last year around this time. Was the wires coming off the harness frayed. Check those and report back!

Tracked down problem yesterday...it was in wire harness. The lead going to sensor was broken where it makes the loop going to plug behind wheel. No damage was apparent until I removed the outer protective shielding...then it was obvious. Sending photo, hope it comes through okay....thanks for all the help. :th_peaceout:

That's exactly what both sides on mine did. They were so brittle you could pretty much snap them anywhere that black plastic jacket was. Make sure to cut back far enough when replacing them too to eliminate that stuff.
