ABS Light On

Hi, I just purchased a 98 Grand Prix GTP and the ABS light was on so, I took it in to get safetied, it came back saying i need some new front wheel bearing's replaced and also i needed to either repair/replace my BCM (Body Control Module) well I took it to pontiac and asked them to look at my BCM and now they're saying I need to replace my entire ABS assembly

Im just curious if anyone else has run into this problem and if so can you give me any guidance cause I dont have the money to replace the entire assembly?

I replaced the ABS module,
Did they scan the car and thats how they made the determination what needs to be fixed or are they just guessing?
Anyway the ABS module from a dealer is over $1,200.00, if in fact you do need those parts find Ed Morad online and if you can do the work or you can find help with it....buy from him.
The ABS module was $175.00 shipped, I can tell you all about it if you really want to know.
Kinda sounds like they might be trying to screw you, did they give you the codes when they scanned your car?
You should ask for them before you have them do any work.
You can post the codes here and then you can know for sure.
Sorry it's not a rant but don't want you to get screwed either.

I havent gotten any codes but i can see if they'll give me them, what codes am i looking for so i dont sound dumb when i go and ask for them?

Just ask them for the codes that they found....if you paid them it should be on the receipt or they should give them to you if not go somewhere else.
Those could be some very expensive repairs they say you need.
The economy is not very good right now so you can't trust everybody especially with your car.
I could be something as little as a loose wire but you wouldn't know if you don't have the codes.
They should have a scanner that can scan the ABS and if they don't then don't stay there.
When my ABS went bad I took mine to the dealer and they have all the scanners for our cars and they will give you the codes found on the receipt.
It did cost $95.00 for the scan and labor but it ended up being alot cheaper in the long run.

ok the codes that they gave me were C0550 and P1571 and I have to repalce the EBCM (electronic brake control module and quoted me at $1527 for the part alone.

i wonder what the part number is on that ebcm or if you can use one out of a 2001 pontiac grand prix or another gm car

$95 sounds preety good for a fix...

My question how do you get it off.. the abs module.. there a easy way to get it off?

YOu just take off the connection part right?

The module is located behind the air cleaner (intake) housing on the right side of the engine bay in the rear; you may need to remove some parts to access it. I had to remove my wizair air cleaner.
Disconnect the large electrical connector in the front of the module (move blue locking tab to left)
Remove the 6 Torx T-20 screws holding the module onto the ABS pump.
Pull ABS module off of ABS pump and disconnect the smaller bottom connector.
Hope this helps. Chime in if you have any more questions.
