About the Lower intake & S/C

I'm switching out my old lower intake & S/C and putting them in my new motor. I've nvr messed with a s/c before so I wanted to ask if it & the lower intake just come right off when you un bolt it. Will I make a mess with coolant or anything else when they come off? How simple is this to do?

the blower doesnt really make a mess, but the lower intake makes a mess with coolant. its easy enough to do, but its not completely clean like youd want it.

You need to drain some coolant first, BEFORE pulling the LIM off, as the LIM holds quite a bit of coolant. Otherwise, you will risk water contamination in your oil. Regardless, you will inevitably get some coolant into the lifter valley. I would also highly recommend pouring a quart of dino oil into the lifter valley after removing the LIM to flush any traces of coolant through. Finally, drain the oil and refill once the LIM is bolted back on. Good luck...

i would just do an oil change right away after you finish. spun bearings are really easy with coolant in the oil.

Well I took the S/C and Lower intake off & guess what I found; RUST. I checked under the valve covers too & they're all rusted as well. Make it worse I took the oil pan off & found white gunk in it too. Can't afford to have this machined so I gotta buy Another new motor. I'm so very sad.

IDK. Bought it from a dude at a local performance shop. They're all 3800 buffs at that place. He claimed it ran real strong & Im sure it will run. Then it will get junk on the pistons and everywhere else in the motor.

Get a motor from Ed...at least it has a warranty...as long as you don't do anything internal to it IIRC.

Yay my new motor is a 2001 w/ only 56K & the guy who got it for me is gonna port the S/C & LIM. Can't wait to get it all done & drive. =D

You get the motor from F.T.W.? :th_scratchhead:

You need help man, seriously, just drop me a email I am more than willing to help if your willing to learn. I live in Wichita, but grew up in Goddard. Coming out to help you is not a big deal. I know these cars inside and out, the engines too. Not a bolt or piece of wire I have not touched myself on my car.

Here is my email.

Yep, its from one of the guys at FTW. Hope I get it finished soon I need my car back.

As for a cam. I'll pass on that. I plan on putting in an intercooler setup with 3.25 pulley and 1.9" rockers. But thats somewhere down the road. On a tight right budget now. Shouldn't be porting the S/C :P

Since your in Wichita you should get Jeremy to tune your car...he is a tuning guru...Jason can get ya hooked up on that one...I wish I was closer to he could tune my damn car LOL But I've got my people up here too :D

I'm not sure i know jeremy or jason. unless they work at FTW. But I am getting a tune soon as the car turns on. No more ZZP PCM. This is a nice motor I'm not letting it be destroyed =]

No offense towards FTW, but they make power, not much for making reliability. Kinda like the ZZP and INTENSE PCM's. (no offense towards them either)

When money allows it, you can always put a cam in later. But I understand the circumstances right now needing it now, and running, on a tight budget. Before you add too much other parts, its always good to plan ahead, and add the needed performance parts that will allow the other parts to work better and correctly.

Such as headers for starters, or a good CAI.
