Ok..I have my engine is tore most of the way down..still have the rear head and manifold on(closest to the firewall)...I bought a set of heads from someone here on the forum. Those heads are in the machine shop, I can't get my hands around the back of the bolts on the downpipe(I think thats what it is)...how can I get that off and get to the rear head while the block is still in the car? Also, before I put it back together I want to get all the grime and gunk off of the block..what is a recommended way to go about that? Thanks

It'll make it easier to use ratchet straps somewhere to ratchet the motor forward, and climb into the engine bay. There are 6 (IIRC) exhaust manifold studs threading into the rear hear. I believe they are 13 mm. It's easier with a deep socket. I always use use brake clean and gasket remover spray, along with plenty of rags and a gasket scraper to remove all the grime.

You should be able to get to the downpipe nuts by getting underneath the car and using a long ext. and a deep socket. May need a swivel at the end, can't remember for sure. Be sure to soak em in PB Blaster before you try or you may end up breaking one.

One the DP is off and down, you should be able to rock the motor forward and get to the mani. bolts.

I always just ratchet it forwards without unbolting the downpipe. The exahust will pull forward on the hangars, it's designed to flex.
