99 gtp...

Re: new guy 99 GTP total transformation

awesome build.

now paint bullits bronze and be epic.

Re: new guy 99 GTP total transformation

Im going to try not to waste anymore money on making it faster, Its not worth it to me, I dont like the gear ratios or the powerband even with decent power it still feels slow. Bronze on Red? eww no thanks

Re: new guy 99 GTP total transformation

That setup should make decent power.

What kind of afr you running?

Since its cammed you can prolly drop 1 pulley size and adjust some other things and make better power.

Re: new guy 99 GTP total transformation

Right now at WOT im right around 10.8-11.2 with 18* on 93oct. shifting at 5900 but my AFR's are not setup very good yet. I just got the DHP to connect last week and the only chance ive had to mess with it is after work. Then i just read about how to log my WB and use it to tune my MAF and LTFT's and what not like 3 days ago so I scrapped most of the tuning I had done to that point. Im using a 04 Comp G timing table with my stock values entered in under 1k rpm because I was getting some weird idle surge issues. Im aiming for 11.6-11.8 WOT with hopefully 20* timing (3.4" pulley) when im done.

Re: new guy 99 GTP total transformation

This a little off topic but I noticed that in a picture you show some Hastings rings. I put these in the block that I just rebuilt and after turning the motor a few times I noticed that one of the cyclinder walls (#3) had a nice mark from a bur on one of the rings. I was furious. After removing the piston it was the second ring from the top that had a bur on it. I couldn't believe that I didn't notice this when checking the ring gap. These were standard rings and I didn't have to grind them...all were between 0.019 and 0.022" A couple swipes with a stone cleaned it up.

Hastings! Now I know why they are $50 cheaper than Sealed Power. I'm spending the extra money next time.

Re: new guy 99 GTP total transformation

Nice ride. I see you put msd coils on it. I would love to know how they hold up. I like the look and any added performance would be nice. Have been told they dont hold up. Keep up the grat work and keep us updated.

Re: new guy 99 GTP total transformation

Well Rico if the motor ****s itself in a few thousand miles ill know why, i checked the rings over carefully while installing them but I never specifically checked the cylinder wall after turning the motor over. I wouldnt be surprised by something like that, the Hastings rings are in the same looking packaging as the Engine Pro bearings thier probably all made by the same chinese company. If you missed the part about the engine pro rod bearings, I torqued a cap down and it locked the crank up. A few of the bearings were machined wrong, they all went in the trash in the end and I got clevite 77's. As far as the MSD coils. As you can see in the first few pics they were on the car when I bought it, we have had nothing but problems with EVERY msd product we have purchased in the last 5 years even so far as to have to exchange a MSD Marine box in our boat with Summit SIX times before finally giving up and putting a Crane Marine box on and never looking back (in fact that setup went on to make 1150 hp but thats a different story). The MSD wires that were on the car when i bought it were so bad it wouldnt rev past 3800 rpm WOT i put on an $8 set from advance and it ran great right up until the piston chipped. Long story short, no I would never buy MSD crap for my car.

Re: new guy 99 GTP total transformation

I don't want to force this thread to the "Rant" forum but yea, I get what you're sayin' about some of these suppliers and their quality control/design issues. Let this be informative to whoever reads. There are some manufacturers that you should just stay away from, MSD being one of 'em. Heck, I thought Hastings made a good product. Well we'll see (both you and I).

Anyway, great resto on that thing! Keep up with the good work.

Haha it doesn't look as bad as you think

Re: new guy 99 GTP total transformation

Maybe not bad on a "hellaflush" rice burner or something but not my GP

Not to thread jack but

Somewhat flush...no rice

Re: new guy 99 GTP total transformation

Dude be proud man, you can always make it faster but you got every inch of that thing rebuilt! Im in garage envy also, lets be friends.

Re: new guy 99 GTP total transformation

todays progress...New OEM wheel hubs on both sides and a alignment. No pics of that, who cares...I did get a pic of my "shift interlock defeat mod" So my car will come out of park on the first try as opposed to the tenth try like before. Much cheaper and easier than diagnosing, soldering, or replacing any parts

Re: new guy 99 GTP total transformation

not bad, would look a lot better if they were powdercoated instead of spray bombed and retained the polished lip. Not my cup of tea still though. Love the debadge though!

$100 wheels...can't complain.

Had I not been lazy, I might've kept the lip. I like that they now look like 17s and not 15s...black really makes em look tiny.
