99 gtp...

Re: 99 GTP...halfsie wiring tuckage, IC/Gen V on

Well ive gone and done it now. Just ordered a JVC KW V20BT double din touch screen headunit, JBL MS-62c 6.5 Components, Kicker 700.5 amp, Axxess ASWC-1 steering wheel control interface and a knukonceptz wiring kit. Still holding off on buying a 10" sub until I make up my mind. Bought a sheet of black textured ABS plastic for $6 too so I can try and fill in the 2din mount job nice without learning fiberglass

Aeroforce finally got back to me on my trade-in for my junk gauge that I got ripped off on from here. So $188 sent out for my brand new aeroforce too.

Re: 99 GTP...halfsie wiring tuckage, IC/Gen V on

Well I got the JVC KW V20bt installed. My dash bezel didn't come out all that great. I got a 12x12 sheet of textured plastic and cut some strips of it to cover the sides then I just trimmed the top and bottom until it fit. I don't have any pictures of the final product but it wasn't picture worthy anyway. The CA glue turned the textured plastic white then one of the sides broke loose before I even got the bezel in place. I'm going to buy some plastic weld and try again next weekend. The top turned out good. Sitting in the car you can barely tell its cut. The bottom....I don't know what to do with. I cut the cross piece out from between the radio and heater controls and now I just have two cut off ends sticking out. I may have bit off more than I can chew with this one. I wish I could do fiberglass work.

then I found out that my phone is hardly supported by my new head unit. I've got a HTC Evo 4g LTE and aparently it uses something called MTP to transfer data on the USB cable instead of just mounting as a storage device so my head unit will not connect to it through USB. It will play through the blue tooth but it will not read ID tags or bring up folders through blue tooth. I haven't got the Pandora function to do anything yet either.

basically tonight I've been learning more about bluetooth and usb protocols than I ever really cared to and have been seeing a whole lot of this

If you are willing to work with JB weld, SEM makes the right paints and even a plastic build up/material. I could toss a couple of pointers at you on how to make your own stuff.

A couple of the things I've done.. and I have no patience for stuff like this

Texture paint

Recognize the switch?

Some JB Weld (5 min) a little sanding paper, a little imagination and you can do anything. Then some SEM texture and paint.. poof, it's factory original. No one would know the difference.

Re: 99 GTP...halfsie wiring tuckage, IC/Gen V on

Isnt there some sort of 3m plastic filler that's fairly easy to work with? I love the HU but the install is totally hacked. I can't leave it this way. If I can't figure it out myself I'm going to have to pay to have it done right.

Cool stuff!

Yeah MTP is what most phones are switching too I belive and it's sooooooooo crappy. My tablet uses it and transfers stupid slow and fails to transfer another over 1gb before crashing mid transfer. I miss them mounting as a mass storage device.

Re: 99 GTP...halfsie wiring tuckage, IC/Gen V on

yea I have seen that. ive got a guy local that thinks he can handle it we will see. if all else fails I will order the DD one

Re: 99 GTP...halfsie wiring tuckage, IC/Gen V on

SEM Makes a plastic filler/creator as well. It's not too bad to do. Although your piece between radio and hvac is thin

Re: 99 GTP...halfsie wiring tuckage, IC/Gen V on

Well I just dropped the car off to "the guy". I know how to build transmissions, thats my trade. If anyone could do it I wouldn't have a job. This guy knows how to make installs look oem that's his trade LOL. I figured ill just use money from doing what I'm good at to pay him to do what he's good at. I could probably have done something and made it look acceptable but I really don't feel like screwing it up any worse. He's doing an amp rack in the trunk to make the monster zx700.5 look clean too. I will post pics when I get it back. This is the 3rd time I have ever paid someone else to work on my car the other two were the alignment and body work. Hopefully he is up to par.

Re: 99 GTP...halfsie wiring tuckage, IC/Gen V on

See that grey... looks a lot like JB Weld. FWIW I have never had an issue with any piece that I used it on.

Re: 99 GTP...halfsie wiring tuckage, IC/Gen V on

The part idk is what's under the masking tape. My radio edges end where the masking starts. That flat bezel around it is all something he made

Re: 99 GTP...halfsie wiring tuckage, IC/Gen V on

He might have popped the outer trim ring of the radio off to use as a template for filling. The yellow may have held it. I would commonly use tape like that to hold position while the filler hardens. Looks like it's going to come out nice.

Re: 99 GTP...halfsie wiring tuckage, IC/Gen V on

I have faith. As long as its as good as or close to the DD mods one and for around the same price I will be thrilled. I really didnt feel like waiting 8 weeks for them to complete it.

Re: 99 GTP...halfsie wiring tuckage, IC/Gen V on

looks great! any plans to tuck more wires in the engine?

just fyi (as im sure "the man") knows you had that radio right, it just needed to be pulled up and under the vents needed to be trimmed a bit.

awesome work, lots of good ones coming from michigan nowadays

Re: 99 GTP...halfsie wiring tuckage, IC/Gen V on

No more wire tuck, I did the easy part just as part of the coil relocate and to route my IC hoses where I wanted them. That is why the thread title is "halfsie" because I didnt want to have half ASS on there lol. Im great with a soldering iron and I have Alldata and MOD in the shop with FSM wiring diagrams. The thing I am lacking is patience! I look at these full tuck threads and just think HOW THE **** did they even think to route this or that like that. I can do alright cleaning stuff up but some of these guys just have it in their blood.

On the radio...Im not even questioning whatever he is doing, it will look good when it is done and that is all I care about.
