99 GTP Knocking

Hi, i have a 99 gtp and recently its been making a knocking noise coming from the center of my front end.. It only seems to happen from 20mph and up. if i let the engine run in park the engine sounds fine at a loss for what it may be thinking a bearing but not sure.. also i have a check engine light come on about a week before if that helps. trying to get my buddy with a code scanner down to help but he isnt reliable..

Thats what i figured.. still would like to know why the s.e.l came on.. at a loss for what the noise is tho doesnt seem to affect the way it dirve and runs just doesnt sound good at all and i can feel the vibration in the pedal.
 
My car drove fine missing part of a piston if that makes you feel better.

Prolly not, but just figured I'd throw it out there...I'd check your plugs, that's free. If any are bent on the tips then you've got internal damage.
 
I have a 99 and also had the same problem. bought a donor car for $200 and swapped motors due to the rod knock i had. mine did the same thing. at idle it sounded ok but put it in gear and it was fine until i gave it a little gas. I am pretty new to the GP thing but not new to cars and i would bet you have a spun bearing. my car didn't seem to be down on power but it was very obvious what the problem was. I also didn't have any other codes than my O2 and egr. good luck to you.
 


read the code and its p0440 which means the EVAP control system is no longer fuctioning correctly.. prolly cause someone stole my gas cap or i drove off from the gas pump with it on the back of car.. :th_shakinghead2: Also checked my plugs and they seem fine..gonna get it on some jack stands and see if i can isolate where the noise is coming from.also checked my cv joints and the boots look fine.. About to get it AAA to a mechanic if i cant figure out where its coming from. :th_nervous:
 
Problem was CV joint. boot was torn on 1 side and was causing the knocking.. replaced CV Axle on both sides along with wheel bearings and tie rods.. bushings and all is great! :th_thumbsup-wink:
