99 Grand Prix Speedo Died

I'm posting this here because I assume it is either a bad ground or a sensor that is leading to an error.

First my rpm gauge died, went to the fuse box and made sure all wires were tight. Closed it, started the car and nothing. Twenty seconds later it spikes up to the correct position (from 0rpm) and noticed the speedometer isn't working either. Though my heads up displays the correct speed. As the physical one reads 0mph.

Anyone with support on the topic? Rpm gauge fixed itself. My speedometer though is having some trouble with itself right now.

Then this one sits dead, speed sensor is fine as the HUD displays the actual speed. Though the rpms didn't read once upon a time too until they randomly decided to come to life.

Ur cluster might just be going out my friend had the same problem in his mustang and he just replaced the cluster and it worked

Is that mileage correct? only 50k?
you can find a cluster cheap on ebay. Only problem it would have at least double the miles on it.

No, it was replaced at around 160k miles because the odometer stopped working. So approx 210k miles (I've pulled up the car history via the VIN).

Before you buy another, pull it out and look at the connections. You'd be surprised what some contact cleaner and some steel wool can do

I agree to try and clean it first. A can of contact cleaner is 6 bucks at the hardware store. I would save that 50k. If you get it working put some leds in it.
