99 GP GT PO440 problem

I have a 99 GP GT that is throwing a PO440 code. I have a week before I take a trip from Ohio to Virginia. I ordered a new gas cap from rockauto.com. My only real question is, if I leave and the light comes back on during my trip will this code hurt the car or just my mpg?

Hopefully the gas cap can fix the problem!!!

It won't hurt anything it's just emissions stuff i believe. Where are you in ohio?

I would check over all your evap lines, maybe one is cracked.

And replacing the gas cap like you are doing could be the cause aswell.
